I have had my current cockatiel for one year now and he is very well tamed. But sometimes I have to do other things around the house such as paying bills, using the bathroom, cleaning, and I can't really leave him out by himself, so I put him back in his cage - then he goes on a chirping rampage when he can't see me.

If I buy another cockatiel, will he be quiet when left alone in the cage with his new buddy? Or will I have two chirpy birds demanding me when I'm out of sight?

Seriously people, how hard is it to answer a question DIRECTLY. Have of you gave indirect answers, and the other half just wrote crap like "don't know" or "don't do it" What's that all about??

That's a tough question with their personalities. Keep in mind, birds are very social and you are "the flock" for your current cockatiel. He many not handle the new bird very well - having to share you.

When I had that issue, I clipped my cockatiel's wings, left the door open and she would sit on top of the cage (quietly). Don't do this unless the wings are clipped, though.

I will tell you from experience.... I once had a tamed cockatiel. It was a very good bird. But once I bought another cockatiel, the tameness went away. I had put them in the same cage and that was probably the wrong thing to do. I had him to where he would eat out of my hand, fly to me or my mother. He would play on and around his cage. But once I got the other.. it was all over. But IF you do get another one, maybe keep them in seperate cages, until you can get the new one tamed, then slowly let them out togther with their cage doors open, and see what happens.

I have the same problem, thus got a second Cockatiel. Now when I leave the living room they both chirp up a storm. But I feel better that while I am at work all day, they have each other.
