I attend church weekly and I pay my 10% (which I don't have a problem with because it help the upkeep of the church) I do have a problem when your pastor says "your blessing is comming" and every week and even during the week he gets payed for ministering. My pastor has a 4 bedroom house, great big truck and Lexus car. I am not saying that I am not blessed because at least i do have a roof over my head, a car to ride to work in and food on the table. However why does a preacher get payed to preach the free word. He is suppose to be in the business of saving souls. Sunday is payday. Monday through Saturday if he goes out to another church to preach is payday. Anniversary and Vacation I get 5% raised a year. For the celebration of that one day he get about 10 times his salary from the congregation and then a raise in Salary. When I read the bible it said that Jesus was the same as his people. The difference was his powers to heal, save and love. Why is man treated better than Jesus.

well it really depends on how big your congregation is. if your congregation is big, your pastor doesn't get everybody's 10%. He gets a salary...and the rest goes to the church to upkeep the church (like you said). and don't think of it as it's only you... there's many more people who give their tithes. and this is also his work. he prepares sermons and stays up giving advice and praying for people when they call in the middle of the night (believe me they DO!). He has to do a lot of preparing, he doesn't work, so where else do you expect him to live off of?
and, i really hate so say it, but some pastors do take advantage, so if you see something is not going right and the money is being used unwisely, you might consider moving to another church... especially 'cause you're having feelings against your pastor, which is a sin... you shouldn't feel jealousy about what other people have...
and about the whole waiting on your blessing thing...
maybe God's waiting on you to change your attitude and waiting for you to follow His Word, sometimes we think that by just going to church and tithing, you'll be okay and go to heaven, which is not true... you have to follow God's commandments and get more closer to God. Pray and ask God to show you what it is that is keeping you from your blessing. and BE PATIENT. God may be testing you.

Oh dear. You've got this all wrong.

Faith is not a business.

It certainly is NOT the "business of saving souls."

You can't buy your way in to heaven.

If you're that bitter about how much money your pastor is making, then change churches. It's just that simple.

Your focus should be on GOD. Not your pastor. Not the church.

If your focus is on anything other than God, then the environment your in isn't healthy for your soul.

Move on.

You might try volunteering your time to help with church upkeep. Rather than money.

I have a church right across the street from me. But my soul does not get fed there. So I travel. 10-15 minutes by bus to get to a church where my soul does get fed. I love my church. For me it is a little dot of heaven in the regular world.

I don't believe a pastor should get rich for preaching, In my old church, our pastor would give out money to people who needed it, or spend the money keeping the church up. At another church the pastor bought toys for the sunday school kids all the time, and did other generous things. Pastors that keep the Sunday morning offerings all to themselves are probably being greedy. On the other hand, you must remember that your pastor is not perfect. He is a sinner too. God wants you to make the offering, God knows when you've made the offering, and what happens to that money afterwards really shouldn't concern you. The important thing is that God knows you made the offering.

Let's think about this.
Is your pastor visiting the sick? Of course, he should be at the hospital visiting the sick every day, is he? Does he go to the homes of his congregationalists when they are sick, or hurting?
Would he visit one of them if he got arrested and went to prison, do you think?
If you were to lose your job, would he and his wife be there, with food, and with money to help keep your bills paid, and with help to either get you another job or help you find another way to make an income?
Could you call him at two in the morning, if you had a real need?
Does he help in the community? Would you ever see him, sleeves rolled up, helping to load trucks with food or clothing for the needy? Or, perhaps, mowing lawns on the "other side of the tracks"??
And what about Mrs. Pastor? Does his wife volunteer to work at the local food bank, or day care center, or homeless shelter?
Does she cook and clean for any ladies in her husband's congregation who might be sick?
Is she there when a new baby comes into a house, to offer her help until the new Mom is fully recovered?
A pastor who actually is that committed to his congregation would deserve all the suupport he earns.
Most pastors, I'm afraid, do not earn their keep. If you are contributing to the support of one of these fat cats, I'm sorry, but you are not obeying God's Word.
What do you think Jesus really thinks about all of this?
Remember when He cleansed the Temple? His charge was that they had turned His House into a den of thieves. Do you think He might not feel the same way about the churches today?
I can see Him, walking into such a church...kicking the collection plate over, scattering the mone...maybe throwing it out into the street, where the homeless and hungry might help themselves...as He lays about Himself with His whip...and all the fat little deacons and their wives go galloping out into the street behind the money, to the laughter of the crowds...
Gives you another way of seeing things, when you look through Jesus' eyes, doesn't it?????

I expect the Church is providing the house he lives in and maybe his transportation. I doubt very much that he is raiding the offering and putting it into his personal bank account.

I don't know what religion you are. But when your pastor says "Your blessings are coming," he is speaking of the spiritual blessings you will receive. He is also trying to teach you to give with a happy heart and let go of the greed and selfishness of this world.

Don't be jealous of your pastor. His needs are being met and his financial appeals are for the Church. Also, many congregations only have one priest/pastor, etc. Obviously, your area is sharing one pastor. Be thankful because we need more of them in this world.

When you take out your 10% for the Church, that is to come BEFORE your bills are paid. God is to be first in your life. If you give Him what's left over after your bills are paid, you are putting Him last in your life.

God bless you.

Obviously your congregation gives enough to support the church AND give the pastor a hefty paycheck. But.. Getting paid for being a pastor by NO means makes him wealthy. It's a paycheck, yes. But pastors need to live too. Weekly tithing of congregation members goes to pay for other things too, like electricty, heating, water bills, printing of weekly bulletins, purchase of communion wafers and wine, etc. My church bought a house for the pastor, but whenever there is a new pastor the only one has to move out. It's not like the pastor is robbing you. If you want a place to worship then you need to help contribute some money, plain and simple.

Also, it's not like pastors get paid for one day's work. My pastor is ALWAYS at the church doing something. They do weddings, baptisms, funerals, visit dying congregation members in he hospital, visit schools to minister to children, give spiritual and marital counseling...

The Bible says that the church is to take care of the man of God. God calls certain people to bring the message He gives them. There are some preachers, I guess who take advantage of people.

I also think people misunderstand what a preacher's work really involves. I have preachers in my family who are by no means rich, and they do whatever they need to do to get by. They would never dream of asking for more money.

They have to go visit people in the hospital in the middle of the night, anyone who is sick, keep their Saturdays open for anyone who needs counseling, plan activities, apologize when someone is offended by something they say (when you speak for 4 hours a week, you are going to offend someone) They have to leave their family who they have almost no time with at dinnertime to go help another family they don't know. They have to keep their life free of sin all the time, so they can pray for someone else, and offer advice. And that isn't even all. I don't know any preacher who is paid enough for what he does.

Time to find a new church. Personally, I don't go, but rather prefer to commune with God all by myself.

We are supposed to give the first fruits of our increase (meaning after bills are paid) for a Godly cause - 10%, which can be any charity or cause that helps others. The best is when you can see the ripening of the deed (person you helped improve their life, health, education etc.), because it glorifies God, and very satisfying for both yourself and the receiver.

God has promised to give back much more than we gave in the first place, and he always keeps His promises :-)

Read the New Testament and you'll see what Jesus intended His Church to be like.

There are many good charities out there whose mission is to spread the Good News by helping individuals - The Salvation Army, Union Gospel Mission, Samaritan's Purse etc., and my personal favorite, Compassion International.

Take your concerns to the church board....maybe they can explain what exactly your pastor earns annually (he may have income from another source that you do not know about...)
Also, if there is an unbalanced amount of funds going to the pastor, then the issue can be addressed. All records should be public.
Be careful of your motives...
Are you rightfully concerned for God's kingdom and your church as a whole or is it a more a selfish jealousy that you may need to address with God??

those Pastors that stay the wealthy existence off of tithes and options are no longer following God. None of Jesus disciples lived the way the television evangelists stay immediately. God directed and 10 % tithe, no longer so the pastors could desire to stay wealthy, yet so as that it could desire to extra the dominion. This money could flow to deliver missionaries international, to feed the ravenous babies and to gown them and to offer scientific look after them.
