Here's my question: if Mexicans want jobs so badly, because there aren't many of them available in Mexico, why don't they force their government to fix the problem instead of electing free-riding jerks who just insist that the US take their low income citizens and provide them with work?
I understand that they do what they need to to feed their families, as would anyone. But most Mexicans would rather live in Mexico, they love Mexico, as they should. BUT I want to know why they are bailing ship instead of actually fixing their own country.
And to anyone who says that illegal immigrants take the jobs no one wants, that's garbage. In Los Angeles, my boyfriend couldn't get a McJob simply because the spanish speakers who worked there (mostly illegals, they didn't speak english really at all) wouldn't work with someone who couldn't speak spanish. This was widely the case in low income jobs and manual labor jobs in Southern CA.

Editing: since many of you just insist on insulting my boyfriend, I'll clarify. The economy was not good in CA at the time and he was left with no alternative. That happens to people from time to time. I've known people all over the country who turn to service jobs when times are bad. Get a freakin' life.
As for the jerk who said that I was lying: what lawyer do you know will take a case for free???? Also, when potential employers do a background check and find out that you've filed a descrimination lawsuit, how quickly do you think theyre going to deny you employment? It's survival to not file a lawsuit. Oh, and he refused to go on welfare, so he at least has some self respect: he'd rather have ANY job than be living off of the US government and he's a US Citizen. And he's done manual labor without complaint.

Your really naive.....Who said the people vote these thugs in office....They steal elections all the time as in the case of the recent election of Calderon.....You can't force a govt. if you are unarmed....They have gun control in Mexico, people don't have access to arms, to overthrow a corrupt govt. like we do have here....
Perhaps your boyfriend should go back to school and get an education, to get a real job....

The wonderful Ronald Reagan cut funds for family planning from foreign aid when he was in office. Until then, Mexico's economy had been growing at a faster rate than its population was, so the per capita wealth of the country was rising and it was, as you put it, getting "fixed". When family planning was eliminated in Mexico, thanks to Mr. Reagan, the population began to grow faster than the economy, so there was NO WAY there would be more money per person, regardless of how you cut the pie. So the people coming across the border now are the ones who were born because Mr. Reagan cut family planning from foreign aid. A bad choice. Bad choices have consequences. This is why thinking things out is a good idea. Maybe we could make a time machine and go back to 1980 and tell people that if they elected Reagan the country would be flooded with illegal aliens by 2007. Do you think anyone would have listened? No. Of course not. A bad choice brings bad consequences.

I agree, the Mexican people should try to fix mexico. But they can't do it on their own. They are an oppressed people that now need outside help. I would bet that if you ask the Hispanics what they would want, they would prefer to fix Mexico. Since our country seems to want to spread democracy at any cost maybe we should start with our neighbors to the south. Mexico earns a large amount of oil revenue that never seems to make into the hands of the people. So instead of starting a revolution they seek a better life in the USA. "Give us your sick, Give us your tired, Give us your huddled masses yearning to be free", I guess this doesn't apply to Hispanics.
As for your boyfriend, I sincerely doubt that he didn't get the job because he doesn't speak spanish. But if that is the case you can certainly contact the ACLU for help in the matter.

I agree. Instead of thinking forward, like charging more for things in their own country and demanding higher wages, and riding their country of foreign leaders (Fox is not exactly a Mexican surname, is it?) they would rather come here and still work for low wages and demand the right to break laws HERE to do so. I have often wondered why they are so willing to come here to break the rules, when if they all did that back there at home they could overwhelm their own government. Everyone knows that Mexico's military and police forces are skimpy at best. If the entire Mexican population were to rise up together, they could easily reorganize their homeland and tailor it to benefit everybody. And why are they so staunchly catholic when the conquistador's came and forced them to convert or die!?! And the same thing about Spanish!! That's not their original language! Why don't they revive Aztec?! I would think that would be much cooler now that Spain has no say in what they do. It would show that Mexico is its own Jeffe and not the damn Spaniards that violated them from top to bottom and recreated their society. Why demand that the US speak spanish?! Why not demand that Mexico speak Aztec!! Really!

Maybe americans could help a little by stop selling weapons to cartels and stop consimung drugs, that would help. thanks PS Mexican oil belongs to the government, there are no private owners, and those f%%$ing unions makes everything crappier. Side note, nobody MUST speak any language in particular we should kill mute people then, if this people can get a job even though they don't speak english it's their problem, and the problem or their boss, if anyhow they sell well darling then just go to another restaurant.

I couldn't agree with you more. But I think they probably figure "Why work, when I can go to the USA, get on Welfare, have all the health benefits for free". They would rather be here under those conditions than try to fix the problem in their own country. You have to admit, that's a sweet deal which many would not turn down to go to war in their own country.

This is a question that reflects a lack of understanding of reality. Since when can the ordinary citizen force the government elected or not to do anything. 80% of Americans as well as the rest of the world want our soldiers out of Iraq yet the idiot stands by with a dumb look on his face saying stay the course. Why can't Americans fix America? This is one of the most prosperous nations in the world yet we have millions of starving and homeless walking the streets in this country. If the working tax-paying citizen can't change the country how do you expect a poor homeless person to do it. And you think poor Mexicans can change their country? A country where the disparity between rich and poor is even greater? You really haven't thought this one out.
jam_please---I noticed you posted in English are you from England? Why don't you learn to speak YOUR original language.

Believe me there really are Mexicans who have tried to fix their govt. but the prob is there, is pretty much a mafia going on over there. Good Mexican ppl who have ran for president, have been killed in daylight. Cops are mostly all corupt, and there isnt a real judicial system going on where they all get fair trials. Try changing things and you pretty much are asking for trouble. That's like asking why dont those ppl from Darfur stand up to the ppl who are commiting genicide. Some try but no one else is helping. So why not instead of coming up with these guest wrker programs, doesnt the us try and help Mexico get a better govt. tghthr so they dont have to come here illegally in the first place?? Everyone who keeps saying it's not their problem, look around you, IT IS YOUR PROBLEM if you want them all to go back where they came from. I'm going to stay PRO ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION until someone comes up with a better solution!!!

I totally agree. We spend billions of dollars to level Bagdad but won't straighten out our evil neighbors. Where is the logic in that.
Get someone you know to apply for a job at that same McDonalds, that speaks spanish and english. Have them secretly tape record anything that might be used as evidence for discrimination. Then sue the hell out McDs.
Someday.............. she is talking about Mexicans they are from Mexico. Look at her title. She isn't talking about hispanics which consist of many countries. She is talking about Mexicans. She doesn't sound racist at all.

Well,I'm going to say this because I am from Brazil, which is basically a third world country as well.
Most of countries such as Mexico and Brazil ,for example, doesn't have structure like United States does. The government is extremely currupt, and some people in these countries, either do not have a choice to speak for themselves,or if they do,people do not really take them serious. The government elsewhere do not care much. And,things are not as easy as it seems.
I understand your point perfectly. But,it's very complicated.
I'm going to give you an example...
In Mexico, usually people that come from the major cities such as Mexico City, they do have a good economic structure. However, all those Mexicans that are in this country today,at least majority, they are here illegally because they came from the country side of Mexico, and most likely, they do not have money to apply for a visa legally and, even if they did, they would of get denied because they are usually people that work manually and never went to school or had much of a good life, the life that a lot of Americans take it for granted.
It is not only Mexico. It's other contries as well...
It's mainly because the government never did anything to help their own country.Brazil is the same way.
ANOTHER THING,I'M NOT MEXICAN AND I'M NOT TRYING TO DEFEND ANYONE.BUT,EVERYONE JUDGES SO MUCH IN AMERICA IS NOT EVEN FUNNY.I'VE TRAVELED THROUGHOUT THE WORLD,INCLUDING MEXICO AND I'VE BEEN THERE TWICE.MAJORITY OF PEOPLE THAT COME FROM MEXICO ILLEGALLY DO NOT HAVE AN EDUCATION AND ALL BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T HAVE THE BEST OF LIFE.REMEMBER,THERE ARE AMERICANS LIKE THAT AS WELL,BUT INSTEAD OF AMERICANS IN THE SAME LIFESTYLE GOING TO ANOTHER COUNTRY,THEY RUN IN THE STREETS OF AMERICA,HOMELESS AND RUNNING DRUGS AND CRIME.
MEXICO IS A BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY AND IT HAS A LOT THAT U.S. MIGHT NOT OFFER.GET TO KNOW HOW THE COUNTRY REALLY RUNS BEFORE SPEAKING ABOUT IT.
ALSO,WE SHOULD BE WORRIED ABOUT OUR OWN GOVERNMENT FIRST BEFORE WORRYING ABOUT INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS.WE GOT OUR OWN PROBLEMS TO WORRY ABOUT BEFORE ANYBODY ELSE.OUR COUNTRY IS NOT PERFECT NEITHER.

Within your question is the answer. They are looking for the easy way.
In order for it to happen, they would have to fight, and some would even die over what they want. But the last time I was in history class, I believe hearing about how Americans did the very same thing to get what they wanted - independence from a supressing government. I think if they made the same committment they make when they decide to risk their lives and the lives of their family members just to get into the US illegally for "a better life", they would have that better life in their native land, and they wouldn't have to break another nation's laws. And they could live without such secrecy.
