Are you kidding? That's the only way I can keep the peas on my fork!

I'm not sure why, I just don't like my tastes mingling. I sometimes still use my sectioned little mermaid plate that I've had since I was a little kid because I just can't stand it when foods run together. I also eat each food one by one (and never realized I was doing this until my little sister said something) but for instance if I had a plate that had pizza, salad, corn, and potato chips, I would first eat all ofthe pizza, then rotate the plate and eat all the salad, then the corn, and so on. Apparently I've been doing this all my life and never even realized it....strange huh?

Actually, I'm fine with peas and mashed potatoes touching, but don't like my spaghetti and salad mixing. I know it's all the same once it goes down, but it's just something I don't like. I think it has something to do with the tastes mixing, getting on the other food that's nearby. For example, I don't mind mashed potatoes and steak/pork chop/really anything touching because the mashed potatoe can absorb any flavor and still taste good, but I really can't stand macaroni salad and a juicy steak next to each other because the macaroni salad gets warm and the steak juice runs into it. Salad next to spaghetti, the taste would be fine but the salad ends up getting warm and soggy. Maybe this is an issue only with slow eaters like me?

I don't mind most foods touching. Depends on what they are. And sometimes there's a great flavor combo that comes out of touching. Like when I discovered that hollandaise and stuffing were great together! But I wouldn't want a brownie touching beef gravy. I know it all goes in the same place, but it's a matter of texture and combination on the palette.

gg is right. This is a very mild form of OCD. Most people have this sort of behavior in some respect. We just usually pass it off as a personal quirk.
I am one that tries to not let food touch. I dont obsess over it, but I do make a semi-conscious effort to keep things separated. No idea why.
And yes, I know that the food is all combined in my stomach. Its not what Im thinking about when Im looking at the plate though.
If I intentionally want to combine foods, I can and do do that. Without issue. This is just when foods on a plate happen to be sliding towards each other.

I'm fine with my food touching but I can't have eggs and pancakes on the same plate, I don't like the syrup touching my eggs.

No but I do like them to remain separate for taste purposes - a fork full of mashed potatoes & gravy with a little dab of turkey dressing tastes better than having them all blended together. A sub sandwich placed in a blender and then eaten doesn't taste as good as when everything is still separate, albeit in layers between the bread.

Unless you eat different foods a few hours apart they are going to touch in you stomach. And it's even longer for you intestines.

lol..what do they think? That once it gets into the stomach, there are separate pockets to hold every individual ingredient?
It is all mixed together in the end.
Anyone who doesn't want their food touching is clearly suffering from some level of OCD.
