I will be going to lunch today with a co-worker. I've helped her out on some projects and she said that she wanted to take me to lunch. When the time comes, should I still offer to pay for my meal or would it be ok to just say thank you when she pays?

She invited you to lunch with the expectation of paying you as a thank you for your assistance. It is perfectly acceptable to accept the offer and show your appreciation with a thank you. Just remember that if the time comes when she helps you out, that you do something nice in return.

It is refreshing to see co workers actually help one another and seem to be appreciative of the other's assistance. Sounds like this is a work environment that would be great to continue in.

She said she wanted to take you to lunch, she did not ask if you wanted to go together.. she takes you she pays. And you do thank her for lunch.

Have a good lunch.

she invited you to lunch as a thank you for your help. you do not need to offer to pay. in fact, you should not offer to pay. this is her way of saying thank you, do not take that away from her.

at the end of lunch, just say "thank you for lunch. we'll have to do this again, my treat" if you feel like you should pay her back for this.

she is being polite is all.

No, you do not have to offer. But during the lunch, you could say something to the effect of... "You didn't have to do this"
That way the subject will be brought up and you can see her reaction.

This is usually how I handle it:

cw: I'll pick up the tab
me: Are you sure?
cw: Yes, it's for helping me out on the projects, I insist
me: Well, thank you very much and you know I'm always there to help out when you need it.

Go ahead and offer to pay for your part of the bill....but if she says no and that she wants to take care of it, accept and thank her.

It is always polite to offer to pay for your share, under any circumstances. If your friend still picks up the whole bill, cool. And if she takes your share, you'll know that she is not that cool.

If she invited you and offered to pay because you did her a favor, I say no. You don't have to pay.

offer to pay. If she then says is her treat then you are on the safe. If she doesn't say anything then at least you where not rude. is a win win strategy.
