He was a cross dresser.... the only time he could wear his wife's clothes was while the family was gone to church.

I don't remember whether he did or didn't , but it's not at all uncommon to see women leading the family spiritually. I have found that many Christian men are brought to Christ after being led by a woman's example.

he had to stay at the house and do his chores. back then, men usually only went to church in the winter time. seriously!
