Hm... If you don't have anything to offer yourself, what then do you have to offer others?

Edit: I'm finding it interesting how many people view self love as selfishness. When you eat a salad, instead of a cheeseburger, that is an example of self love. When you take classes to expand your mind, skills, and future, that is an example of self love. When you're in a bad relationship with someone who is beating up on you, you need to love yourself enough to leave it, for an unknown future. Self love is not the same as narcissism, or selfishness, and allowing someone else to walk all over you is not any kind of love. Self love is taking care of your self, not indulging yourself. There's a difference between loving yourself enough to take care of your self, heal yourself, and build reserves of good things within yourself to share with others, VS indulging your every selfish whim at the expense of someone else. If all you have to bring to a relationship is things like poor health, ignorance, and a trunk full of emotional baggage, from not loving and taking care of yourself, how loving is that? And when you love someone else, it's natural to want to take care of them. How do you do that, if you don't even know how to take care of yourself?

No. I don't think people have a problem loving themselves. When you love someone you want what is best for that person. Do you know anyone who doesn't seek after their own interests first?

I think the beginning of loving others is to love yourself less and to be willing to meet others needs before your own.

I do think when you are doing all the giving and not receiving anything you do need to recognize that you are not being loved back and move on.

If you believe that loving one's self as in being selfish, No! But if you mean in loving one's self as in treating others as you would like to be treated, then Yes!

Definitely NOT. Awareness of self keeps you from psychologically projecting your defects onto others. Disinterest in other egos means your own egoic self is dead. Only then can you give all that you have to the world. Egoless altruism is love.

I think it's a feeble excuse for self-absorbtion and egoism, based largely on the philosophy of the most repeated moral message delivered to the American public, the television commercial, which tries to persuade us each that we are the center of the universe.

No, though i find it an essential emotion of ones life, but the knowledge, the consciousness and the awareness attained through experience, observation and meditation help me to bear it and to move forward.

you have to take care of yourself (but not being selfish) loving yourself will lead you to do the good things that impures your soul (being honest, helpful, kind, and giving charity)and all these make you a good person who is loved by others and who loves others , loving yourself will also lead you to take care of your health and outlook (impure your body).
love is peace and harmony between your soul and body, and you and others.
so,live and let live!
