Norris: You need to remember that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints was started in the US and in 1830's... I'd say the growth is pretty amazing... are you penguine?

Churches, as in Church buildings?
IN the United States, by far.
Members and Branches/Wards?
OUTSIDE the United States, by just a little.
Here's some perspective though: IN the United States, there is a total population of just over 300 million (as of 5 months ago). OUTSIDE the US, though, the population is another 6 billion more. Having slightly more members outside the US is good, but it's not even a start. Most international Christian religions have a very small portion of their membership in the United States.

Mormon church membership is 12,868,606, with more members outside the US than in.
More members outside the US would seem to suggest that there would be more churches outside. However, in some remote areas, members meet in houses, or rented facilities and not in standard church buildings. So, perhaps the number of physical churches would be less. I don't have specific statistics.
However, I know that in some countries, like Brazil, where membership grows by about 50,000 per year--they're going to be building a lot of new chapels very quickly to keep up. So I'm sure that the number of churches outside the US, if it doesn't already, will soon exceed the number inside.

There are definitely more members outside the US than in it. According to this website, membership in North America (Canada and the US, as well as the South Pacific) makes up 40 to 50 percent of church membership.

I don't know about church buildings. But there are more members outside of the US than there are in the US. I think there are more temples in the US though, but I expect that to change in the near future.

There are more members elsewhere. I am not a Mormon and have heard these demographics from the church.

There are more members outside of the US as of a few years ago. As for actual buildings, I don't know.

In seminary, I learned that the membership outside the US was more than inside at one point. There are even MTC's in other countries.
