I will be out of the Army in about 4 months and need to start looking for a job now. I'm married with a 3 year old and a 16 month old (both boys) and if I don't start looking for a job now I'm going to be in trouble. Just wondering if anyone knows a good source for job searching. THANKS
Staff Sergeant Smith

I'll post some job search links below.

These are the one's I used myself.

These should give you some help.

Your post section that deals with separations, should be able to help also.

There are generally companies that recruit on most Army post.

If you know what state you are going to move to, you can contact thats States Job Service Agency.

Here are some resume help sites, and most of the job links I gave also have section helping you write a resume.

Most companies prefer to hire veterans. Because they are used to having responsibility at a young age, generally have a good work ethic e.g. are disciplined enough to be at work on time and so forth.
The biggest plus is to have "Top Secret" clearance. If you live in the Washington, D.C. area that is your ticket to the gravy train if you do not have marketable skills. Most companies will hire you to do a job that you have no skill or background in if you have TS clearance. Reason being it is so darn expensive to do a background check on someone then have them fail getting the clearance. So if you do not have TS clearance try and get it!

Check out the federal government. They offer Vet. Preference Points which pretty much guarenteers you a job. The website to look that up is www.usajobs.opm.gov. I know about the points because I work to hire Border Patrol Agents.

Heck, many companies will want you, especially if your training have any relevance to the company. Post Office is a good one as your Military time count toward your retirement.
As mentioned, on-line sources like Monster.com and etc. be a good way to get started until your home.

What state are you moving to, and how is the job market there? I know the transition can be hard to go from active to civilian but try to move where the jobs are so you can hit the ground running. Good luck and God Bless... And for old times sake from the gunline "End of mission".

You will (or should) get a lot of help with your resume and such when you're going through your out-processing. In addition, look at www.vetjobs.com

Good luck.

you are hoping your tour won't be extended, anyway, when discharged you can go to the local unemployment office and speak to the veterans counselor, who will refer you to jobs with preferred vet status.
