One of the worst mistakes we as a country made in Vietnam was blaming the soldiers for the horrific things that happend that fall directely at the feet of our legislators and Presidents, Johnson, and Nixon. I'm sorry for this experience, and only hope we will not repeat it after this aweful occupation ends in Iraq. If we do it again, we will have truely failed the world and the military again.

How very sad! Especially considering you took a vow to die for that waitress (an American citizen) if you were called to do so in the line of duty. I often worry that the same thing will eventually happen to our troops who are serving in Iraq.
If I were a marine, I guess I would have been tempted to use some marine muscle on her face.
I wonder what she would say now, if you saw her again.

It is a shame, and sadly,it is true. Been there, done that. It is a real pisser. What I had to do ,and I guess not everyone can,not downing you at all if you can't,is try to forget about it.I know it is impossible to Forget about it as in "I don't remember"But more like really concentrate on the here and now. heck,I know it's not easy,I,m getting screwed up just writing this, but, then is not now,if you know what I mean. Just force it to the back, never try to dwell on it. Good luck, wish I had some better advice

That was a horrible way for her to treat you and your buddy. Of course my knee jerk reaction is to cuss her out. That wouldn't have done any good though. Leaving would have been the best way and then tell others of the treatment. Hopefully they went out of business soon after she said that to you.

When I returned from combat duty in Nam in 1969 I went to apply for a job. There was a sign in the window of the store that said, "Viet Nam vets need not apply."
Been there.

gone to another restaurant. you can't control people's opinons. and in this country there is the law that says owners reserve the right to refuse service to anyone. O.J. Simpson was just recently refused service in an upscale place in Kentucky.
sorry this happened to you. it was wrong but not against manmade law.
it is sad when people blame recruits for the policies of others.

MOST people didn't chose to fight in Vietnam. They were drafted. Even though I think the war was stupid and unnecessary, you should be treated with respect for your sacrifice.

It is really a pure case of mistaken identity. She might need to blame somebody (to throw her anger) and it happen that you are there at the wrong time.
You have to accept that not all people are granted with wisdom.

what a horrible statement. Did she ever think that you devoted your life to the possibility that you could die for her,and the whole country? I hope she has changed her mind about people like you who fight for our freedom. GOD BLESS YOU!!

Stupid waitress.
Brushed myself off and gone somewhere else to have coffee
I abhor violence against women, even stupid ones.
Hope you feel better, though. War is no fun.
