Wait 6 months after the exposure for an accurate result. this test is called the HIV elisa test. there is also another test available call the HIV PCR test. The test actually detects the virus within 28 days after the exposure! it's more expensive because it is a DNA test. So it's up to your budget and what you want to do. There is an awesome site that i have personally tested with you should check out....

I believe that the virus that causes HIV/AIDS can lie dormant up to a year without giving a positive test result, but with NAT testing(Nucleic Acid Testing) like the Red Cross uses I believe it can be detected faster. The best thing is to be tested right away and usually they will do a follow up test.

Once someone is exposed to the HIV virus, it usually takes about 12 weeks for their blood to seroconvert. Seroconversion is when your blood goes from testing negative for HIV to testing positive for it.
When seroconversion occurs, you will usually get a cold/flu. This will go away on it's own, with no treatment from a doctor.

hiv can lie dormant in someone's body and never make them sick but i believe (or it used to) it takes about 6 months for it to multiply enough in the system to be detected by the test.

Up to 6 months after exposure. Usually the dr. will recommend getting retest again immediately, at 6 months and 6 years.

the time period depends on what test u take/blood work/they have one now u know in 20 minutes/but to get 100%or so i have been/ told no sex for 6 months then get tested/
