I agree with you...when you read the entire Bible, it is perplexing, challenging and contradictory. However, when you say this to a fundamentalist...they say it is because you are obviously not a Christian...that once you are saved, you will have full understanding....
But, then they try to use the Bible to save you...so, if you can't understand the Bible until you are saved...how can you use the Bible to save someone?

There is a big difference between reading and understanding. I have read the Bible through and I still believe God is very forgiving and loving. I spent several years studying theology etc. so that I could better understand my faith. So in answer to your question I can only say that I don't lie about it but I cannot speak for others.

To me the Bible is a guide book on how to get through life. I can't say that I have read the entire bible but i have read most of it and i find that its more useful when i use it to learn about things that are relavent to things that are going on in my life at that time. Before i was saved i understood the Bible in context but only God can give you divine wisdom concerning his word. Now i find that i can re-read something and get more of a meaning out of it. To me the Bible is limitless and it has to be continually studied.

I think that even people who read the Bible, read it like a novel. The Bible is very deep in places, which you'd expect as it comes from God.
God gives us 2 choices, follow his advise and have his help, or choose our own way and be left to it. The problem is that we need God to tell us what to do, and we can't have a good life going by our own rules. Imagine if he rewarded good for things that would end up being bad for ourselves or for others.
James 1:13
When under trial, let no one say: “I am being tried by God.” For with evil things God cannot be tried nor does he himself try anyone.
Jeremiah 10:23
I well know, O Jehovah, that to earthling man his way does not belong. It does not belong to man who is walking even to direct his step.

This is what is known as a white lie. After all, they do go to church to have someone else tell them what is in the bible if they were to read it. It is not enough to get sent to hell for, they hope.

Sure. I say that because not everyone is reading on a scheduled program to go through the entire Bible.
About quoting, some verses are more helpful and insightful, this is why they are memorized.

Yes they do. I actually tell christians to read their bible all the time... its scary how many people will devote their lives to a religion just because their parents told them to without reading up on it.

People read the bible, but they remember what they want to remember.
Some people remember the good deeds, other people remember the bad deeds. The bible has both.

See it seems the vast majority pick and choose what they want to pay attention too. Like they are all for no sex before marriage, but ignore that a woman can be held accountable if she is raped. If you are going to live your life by something you might as well do it whole heartdly

i'm not christian, im actively against religion, but i have read the bible... i think it is ridiculous that people believe every word literally.... it is out dated. Also i think that the hard core christians read the bible, but i dont think any other kinds do.
