The AAAS states global warming is real.

NAS (National Academy of Sciences), the US House Committee on Science and Technology, the United Nations, the PEW Center... Pretty much everyone save a small cadre of energy industry schills recognize there is a real problem.

➔ Global Warming
DJ: In 1960 there were 180 million people in the US. Cars got 20 mpg, and there was one car per family of 5. Today there are 300 million, cars still average 20 mpg, and the average family of 3 has two. Forget cars, just look at carbon consumption. It more than doubled in just 40 years.

People think that because they do not understand science. Very few people accept scientific reasoning except scientists themselves. Most people still make decisions based on superstition or personal beliefs. People think the issue of global warming is a political question that is subject to debate, or different points of view. Even people that understand the science sometimes get confused about this and try to line up the number of scientists on one "side" of the issue versus the number of scientists on the other "side." But science does not work that way. It doesn't matter whether 1 scientist has a theory and nobody else accepts it, or whether 99% of scientists subscribe to a certain theory. What matters is whether the theory is valid, which means that it can be tested and proven by scientific experiment.
Right now there does not seem to be any question about the validity of the theory that human activities are causing an increase in CO2 levels which is contributing to global warming. There is no valid scientific data supporting an alternate theory. If someone had a valid scientific experiment proving that increasing CO2 levels caused by human activity are not contributing to global warming, they would publish that data in a reputable scientific journal. But they have not been able to do so.
The people who are saying the global warming theory is a hoax just do not want to accept responsibility for climate change, or just don't want to change their lifestyle or behavior, or just find it hard to believe that all of us tiny little humans can change the climate on this great big planet. So they would rather believe that there is some kind of conspiracy of scientists to fake their data, even though they have no evidence for that at all.

The UN? the US House Committee? How many other POLITICAL agencies are you going to follow to the point of giving up your rights as a REAL person?
Besides, you are getting things confused. Not too many people don't believe that Global Warming is happening. What we don't believe is that MAN is the BIG problem CAUSING Global Warming. We might affect it. But NOTHING WE DO WILL STOP IT.
What we are doing is cutting the trees down, and that is turning the Global Warming processes from the Tropic Age to the Desert Age. That is to say, we are reducing the earth's life support to less than 25%. If we could get the forests and jungles to resume their growths, it would still get hot, but we would still have the ability to have our large populations.
We just want to get the situations straight and not have politicians constantly digging in our pockets for the wealth they posess. I mean arent you tired of them getting wealthy while you work so hard for what little you get?
Thank on this: one of your US Reps get $180,000 base salary upon being elected into the office for the first time. Every year by doing absolutely nothing, they get a 6% "Cost of Living" raise (this is not a performance raise which would get the people angry that they would think they deserve a performance raise). Do the math: they are getting almost $12,000 extra added to the base pay every year. Your taxes and mine are what pays for that. Then they get clothing, travel, vacation, health, dental, fitness, etc... Don't forget they get the special interest bribes for taking your taxes and feeding it to the special interests purposes. Why do you think we are so afraid that they are pulling yet another con against us?

Maybe because they don't trust the one-sided debate?? You must remember, there are always two sides to a debate. What happened to the other side? They also might be asking why so many scientologists are being silenced?, or threatened with loosing their jobs "if" they speak out against global warming. Or, is it too late to pour $ after $ after $ to actually change it around? I agree that people can do some things to "help", but we must be cautious in that some of the solutions being brought up can/and could cause more harm than they realize. Knee jerk decisions are not good for the whole.

Global warming is indeed real but it may not be unnatural. I'm on the fence with this one. The earth has ALWAYS been either in a state of heating or cooling since the dawn of it's existence. It would be almost impossible to tell if Global Warming was caused BY people or is just in the natural process of the planet. Also, I think the lunar landing was real. I have yet to read a conspiracy theory that has really sold me on that one.

Not long ago the same pseudo-scientists were claiming we were in danger of ENTERING another ice age due to increased CO2 levels.
Planetary warming is a fact.
The Earth is warming as is Mars.
The solar cycle likely has much more to do with the warming than anything man has done or will do. We are geologically very near the end of an ice age so it is very likely that the planet will warm considerably in the near future.

Cool, you mentioned the energy industry. Aren't these the same guys that want Congress to ignore their sickening profits off the backs the average man?
Here is an idea keep coming up with diversions like global warming to stop Congress from ruining their profits. Obviously we have seen so much action from our elected representatives on the price of energy.

It just doesn't smell right. Why from 1940 to 1970 the temperature of the earth fell when humans were creating more CO2 than ever before?
Secondly, CO2 only makes up 0.038% of the atmosphere and manmade CO2 is a fraction of that. Could so slight a change cause the death of the world as we know it? The pieces just don't seem to go together. Hence my skepticism.

I think it is very sad that, for example, Jim Inhof of Oklahoma stood with the energy industry firmly in the way for many years calling it the "biggest hoax ever perpetrated on mankind". Mr. Inhof is not very bright which is why we need to consult with scientists instead of politicians who represent industry. Also, most citizens are wrapped up in their own little worlds, sports and TV and getting their minds around this is, well, a stretch!

People who first brought up the concerns regarding global warming were individuals who thought outside the box; they went beyond the norm and people who do this generally are thought of as frauds or conspiracy theorists. This seems especially true for those who go against the government. It has taken a long time to bring the rest of the world up to speed because these people bumped heads with powers greater then they are.

worldwide warming became created by way of liberals to extract extra tax money from you and companies. Liberals continually desire a crises, and GW is it. We have been instructed 40 years in the past that of a few thing became no longer achieved right this moment, there may be no earth by way of 2000. The liberals and their liberal scientists are actually frantic over this, through fact they have been shown incorrect. think of approximately it. in case you have been a liberal "scientist" whose grant and earnings depended upon the study of international warming, how might you checklist the findings?
