With people, the best indicator of the future is the past. He broke up with his girlfriend for you. Odds are he will break up with YOU eventually for the NEXT girl that comes along. I think that you guys should try hanging out without him having a girlfriend now and see how it goes. I wouldn't suggest making him jump right back into a relationship. Hang out see where it goes from there. Take your time. :]
