I may sound lazy, yes, but is there really some logical reason, or do parents just tell us to do that because they enjoy bossing us around?

Man, remind me never to say 'parents boss their kids around' again. As if you all didn't think like that when you were kids? Come on, be honest.

Probably because it makes the room appear tidier. My mom did the same thing when I was a teenager. Funny--now that I'm a 31 year old woman with two toddlers, I STILL don't make my bed, LOL. I make the bed once a week--on the day I change the sheets. Sometimes I'll briskly pull the comforter up over the bed, but that's only if it's fallen on the floor and is in the way. The way I see it is--as long as you're not expecting company who will be in your room (for whatever weird reason) why make the bed? Just keep the door closed.

It's another way to make you more responsible, BUT show them this:

Bed mites
The researchers point out that leaving the duvet on the bed during the day can make a big difference, because it keeps moisture in the sheets and mattress. It's best to leave the covers OFF, says Ucci. "This is a good reason not to make your bed."

Mites cannot survive in conditions below 50% humidity, because they cannot get enough water from the atmosphere.

But the extra water in the air from a quick shower can raise the humidity in a house enough to sustain the mites. "It gives them their daily drink," says Wilkinson. People with mites should open windows or use an extractor fan after having a shower, advises Ucci.

My mom always wanted us to make our beds. It was a bit of a hassle, but it really doesn't take very long. My mom liked having the house look neat and clean. Mind you, this was a great feat when there were 6 kids in the house. We obliged (even my brothers). Sometimes the beds didn't look particularly neat, but she was happy.

And, no parents don't like to boss kids around. I found out a long time ago, if you do what they ask when they first ask, you save yourself a lot of grief. Who wants to be nagged all the time? And, parents don't like to nag.

So, kiddo- make your bed. It will make life for you and your parents a lot more peaceful.

It has nothing to do with the bed, cleaniess or laziness. (even if they claim so)
Everybody likes to have some control of life. Gives us sense of being in unpredictable world. By making you do stuff, they have YOU in control. Also, a neat looking house is also a vision of control. Sense of control makes us feel calm. They do it to you because they can.
I find that if you keep them informed about what you're doing instead of why you are not doing them, they cut you some slacks. Works for work place bosses too.

I'm an adult, I do not make my bed unless someone will be visiting. I get warm when I sleep. I would rather let the sheets be exposed to air and freshen. I do usually straighten my comforter and fold it in half so it doesn't look a mess though.

Sometimes, as an adult, I still wonder that, lol. We have our kids (4 and5) clean their rooms and make their beds. Not in case someone comes over but to program them to want to live in a cleanish atmosphere. It feels (emotionally) happier to be in a clean room. It also sets a standard for responsibility and accountability. That some undesirable things need to get done before the more desireable things can get done. Dont get me wrong, were no neat freaks.
For the record, I dont enjoy bossing my kids around. It my job to teach and guide them.

How would you like it if dishes were never put away? You're going to use them soon anyway. Why put clothes away? Just drop them on the floor. It is a slippery slope when you make one little concession. Don't straighten bed, don't make bed, never put anything away. All of a sudden the house looks like a dump.

I always felt the same way as you do. And now that I'm an adult & I have my own house, I no longer make my bed unless I'm having guests over. Your parents just want the house to look neat & they want to instill those values in you.
The way that I overcame this problem when I was younger is that I never slept under the bedclothes. I just slept on top of the made bed with a blanket on top of me. That way, in the morning, the bed was already made & I just had to fold up the blanket.

It is a matter of discipline. Having enough discipline to make your bed every day is the root to having enough discipline to do all those mundane tasks that nobody wants to do everyday, but they have to be done. Plus, it shows others that you are motivated to things that are supposed to be done. Parents are just trying to prepare you for life after you leave their house and are out on your own.

Yes, parents just want to boss their children around.
That's why they have children and spend most of the money they make to feed, clothe, house and educate their children.
