Brown-headed Cowbirds not only don't build their own nests, they lay their eggs in another species' nest and let THEM raise the young. Deadbeat mothers!

Saw a program about cuckoo birds once. They bogard the nests of these sweet little song birds,--sweep out the song birds eggs, and then place their own oversized egg in the nest. If the song bird refuses to raise the egg, the cuckoo bird comes back and totally rips up that song bird's nest, and all the other song birds' nests in the area. Hence the term "cuckoo." They're birdie-gangsta's.

I know that finches share making their nests together. Both male and female build the nest before laying eggs and then after eggs are laid they finish and tough up after wards. I had these birds for years and had the privilege to watch this great way of life they have of bringing up their young into this world. They weren't too happy I could see as much as I could and kept trying to plug up the piece I could see through, that was the funny part.

Starlings, Cowbirds and Cuckoos use others birds nests, Condors lay their eggs on the sand and gravel or in caves, Brush Turkeys build large mounds of decaying plant material and bury their eggs within it, Kingfishers, Owls and Shelducks nest in ground burrows, Woodpeckers excavate their nest in tree trunks, or other natural cavities.

Cowbirds, Cuckoos, Owls. Some cavity nesters like Tree Swallows and Wrens will take over old woodpecker cavities when they are done using them.
