Yeah allergies can give you a sore throught. If it's strep, check the inside of your throught with a flashlight, If you see white spots, go to the doctor, it's comtageous. It also comes with fever, and it'll be painful to swallow anything. But if your really that worried go see a doc anyway.

If your nose is running it could be an allergy but it's more a scratchy throat.
A sore throat alone with headache or general yuck is likely strep.
A sore throat with cold symptoms is a bad cold..

So it's tough - if you feel really bad, headache etc I'd go with your gut and say it's strep. Call the MD and get a culture.

allergies can indeed cause a sore throat, from post nasal drip. Strep would come with a high fever, and white plaques all over the inside of the throat. So, if you don't have a fever, it is likely your mother is right.

Definitely! Allergies cause sore throats...very common...if it were strep you would have....fever and spots on the throat...Mom's are pretty good at this!

Yes it is very possible. If it feels hard to swallow, though, I would think you should go and see a doctor just to rule that out.
