You went out 5 times and it's a love for the ages??????
Silly children. How little you know.
Boys will come and go. Your best friend is your best friend....far more likely to be there a year from now than this boy you dated 5 tiimes before you decided it wasn't working, but you still have this passionate love for.
Be a grown up and do nothing. Let them be happy....and if he REALLY isn't it'll fall apart on it's own and your conscience will be clear.
Even if they DO break up, leave the loser alone. You'll be the "rebound girl" and he'll hang with you until he finds another. And you will have lost your best friend as soon as you start as the rebound girl.

It all boils down to what is more important..could you stand to lose your best friend for this boy...or could you stand to lose this boy for your best friend? The only thing that I see as a guiding light in your description is that you say that you and this boy have dated 5 times already..and I'm sorry if this hurts your feelings but don't you think that if this boy loved you he would be there with you...and at your side? As I don't have the full picture I'm going to have to just go with what information I have which means that I think that if this girl is truly your best friend than you should respect that that boy is hers right now, and eventually they will break up and from there you can see what really needs to happen in your love life.

You can do what you want to do with your life as long as you don't hurt others.
If your actions will affect others, then you have to carefully consider the consequences. How will she react? Will she let him go? Will she cut you out of her life? Are you willing to lose a friend? Are you attracted to him for him, or because it's exciting/thrilling/dangerous to date your friend's bf??
Think before you go out with him again!

First, if he's in love with you what is he doing with her? This will quickly destroy your friendship, so think about it. Is he worth it? Kinda sounds like he is playing both sides of the fence, so don't be surprized if he moves on to yet a third woman.

you had your chance...now back off and maybe they can be happy. Let their relationship run its course before you screw up a friendship.
