only a handful are known of at this time because although several hundred have filed for CO status it can take up to 2 years for it to be approved and military statistics with regards to this are lagging behind by a year. Since only a small percentage are granted CO status, the majority of them will end up being court marshaled and sent to jail

What is the job of the military? Just play army like a child?
Why would an idiot join the military if they not going to do the job? Unless their communist traitors trying to undermine the military. If a coward not want to fight, then "STAY OUT of the Military" Dang! Bast@rds, just want a check and brag about being a man/woman?
There are plenty of jobs where a person can work and then just whine about war. The Military not that job.

First of all, if they refuse to serve where ordered to go, they are not "US military." They are either AWOL or deserters...

Going to Canada is not a good option. While Canada is a safe haven for draft dodgers, it is not for deserters. So the US military is more likely to call someone who went AWOL a deserter in order to get Canada to send them back.

The Military takes a very dim view of deserters, since not one of them was drafted in the first place. They volunteered, got training and were ordered to Iraq. For them to refuse not only is going against their oath, it leaves a hole in their unit that someone else has to fill.

If they wanted to shoot them, that would be OK with me. If you are going to join a volunteer military then you need to live up to your word.

Very few. No more than about 20 or 30.

And they are dealt with as they deserve - as people who violated their sworn oath to the US Constitution in favor of their political opinions.

The truth of the matter is that the people who have been to Iraq and seen it with their own eyes tend to believe in what we are doing over there.
