Volunteer at a food bank once a week with my children. Lead a girl scout troup. Sit on a BOD for an Alzheimer's foundation. Volunteer at the High School once a week. Serve on the HOA and neighborhood watch.
What do you do?

If you truly want to improve your community, honest communication is the way to go, but be careful! Even with you having the best of intentions, someone might mis-constue your interest in a better community as an motive for something else. I know that sounds paranoid, but you never know what others are thinking. But, if your serious, and you keep to goals, and are mindful about things, you will succeed. Best of wishes for you!

I volunteer with a group that helps elementary school children learn leadership skills. I serve on my county's Human Services Advisory Committee. I belong to a club that raises money for scholarships for high school girls just graduating and women re-entering the workforce.

Part time I work at a bakery, so at the end of the day rather than throwing out the food we didnt sell, I wrap it up and bring it over to the homeless shelter. Also, I volunteer at the library to help organize children's events!

Patronize local businesses, buy locally-grown produce, walk and use mass transportation, educate myself on the issues, vote, tutor a child in the neighborhood, donate to causes.
I could do more. What I do is pretty painless and easy.

I teach them the word of God. People sufer because of ignorancy and the bible teaches that wisdom comes from the fear of God. So the only sure way of improving the lifes of the local people is to teach them the fear of God. I preach in a slum area and i have seen a lot of improvement in all the people who have joined our church.
