My daughter will be 2 in July and she continues to think that she is a dog. Whats even worse is my Husband plays with her like she is one, he thinks it's hilarious! He will throw stuff across the room and have her fetch it. I admit it is pretty funny. I think it is normal for children to act like animals after all aren't we just animals anyways???

Both my boys do this (One of them just turned 3 in March and the other one will be 2 in July.). I'm not sure where they learned it because we don't have any pets! They have one of those Fisher Price xylophones that's shaped like a dog and the drum stick for it is a dog bone. They'll put that in their mouths and run around barking. A month or so ago we went to my mom's house for a BBQ. My younger son got into the cabinet where my mom keeps her dog's food and got out one of those small Milkbone dog biscuits. He ate the whole thing!! I know he had no idea what it was, but it was still funny!

My cousin done this, she was every animal in the book. If you wanted to play with her it had to be an animal game. It is wonderful for the imagination and means they have a fondness and respect for the animals. By the way she didn't stop this until she was coming up to her teens (around 10). She is now 21 and very good with animals and babies. She also breeds dogs and is completely normal. So I think it is all good :)

My daughter is 15 months, and she has been learning animals names and sounds, and has been watching squirrels outside...sometimes when she sees an animal on tv, she walks around on all fours. She has also started eating her food with her face in the plate!
I don't know if the two are related, but the more interested a child is in animals, I think it is really normal...and cute.

My daughter is always pretending to be something. A dog, a cat, a baby. (The baby one has to be the most annoying).
I used to pretend to be a cow and eat dry oatmeal from a bowl under our kitchen table.
I would just make sure she has a clean bowl to drink/eat out of if you have animals around.

every once in a while she well crawl around acting like a animal , especially when she has been to grandma(she has dogs and we do not) I would never let her take it as far as licking water out of a bowl though!

Yep my son has just turned 3 and he pretends to be a dog, frog, lion, elephant you name it he will be it. My niece who just turned 2 is exactly the same so i think this is something that a lot of children do, enjoy it while it lasts its sooooo cute.

Yes my almost 3 year old son does that...and sometimes I have to make him stop before he puts something nasty in his mouth...but I think its normal..I can remember playing as a child and pretending to be various animals..its how they learn and have fun...it doesnt hurt him/her at all...just let her explore and enjoy herself, but keep a good eye on her so she doesnt do anything to "animal like"
She will grow out of it when she finds other things more interesting...like Barbies, other dolls, playing house, meeting new friends, etc....its just a phase

Do you have a dog that she is mimicking?? Kids do lots of funny stuff!! I wouldn't worry about it, she'll grow out of it!! Obviously she likes dogs, it's much better than being fearful of animals, just my opinion!!
Good luck and enjoy every minute, treasure every moment, take lots of pics!! : )

My niece used to do that and she kept doing it, because everyone always said how cute it was, I guess she liked the attention, the way we got her to stop was to play with dolls and things and when she wanted to play we'd tell her puppies can't play with dolls, they'll break them. Then she'd say she wants to be a girl again, then run around the house pretending to be a mommy. As soon as you stop telling her it's cute and rewarding her with affection for things she shouldn't be doing, she'll stop doing them and act right. Atleast that's my experience.
