I have a 6 1/2 month old chihuahua who was just neutered and is puppy pad potty trained. Lately when I come home from work or in the morning when I take him out of his crate he gets so excited that he pees (wherever). I have tried to ignore him for a few minutes and then bring him to his potty pad, but then he will jump on the couch (or anything close) and go there. He never used to do this and nothing has changed with my schedule. Any ideas!?!?!?

You should be going directly outside as soon as the crate door opens.

The thing with puppies is that the get excited very easaly and this makes them wee. What i would suggest for u to do is put a little bit of newspaper near the crate. fuss him etc there till he calms down, then u r free to take hime around the house without him weeing, i promise u this will go as its just a phase all dogs go through!

Male dogs always pee when their excited. Instead of the puppy pad in the morning, put him directly outside. His bladder may be to full first thing in the morning and he`s not paying attention.

Try taking your chihuahua out to potty as soon as you get home and get him out of the crate. i have a pit bull mix who isnt fully potty-trained and as soon i get home i take her out of her crate and take her outside, otherwise she will go on the floor.

Many dogs pee when they get excited. It's just a normal thing. The solution is to keep on doing what your doing, and sooner or later your dog will know what to do.
