This was to gradually help remove fornication out of the Arab society, where people would sleep around with whomever they wished. So with temporary marriage there is a condition being introduced but it was eventaully abrogated:

Volume 7, Book 62, Number 52:
Narrated Jabir bin 'Abdullah and Salama bin Al-Akwa':

While we were in an army, Allah's Apostle came to us and said, "You have been allowed to do the Mut'a (marriage), so do it." Salama bin Al-Akwa' said: Allah's Apostle's said, "If a man and a woman agree (to marry temporarily), their marriage should last for three nights, and if they like to continue, they can do so; and if they want to separate, they can do so." I do not know whether that was only for us or for all the people in general. Abu Abdullah (Al-Bukhari) said: 'Ali made it clear that the Prophet said, "The Mut'a marriage has been cancelled (made unlawful)."

So to put it simply it was done in stages/ steps just like alcohol was abrogated, firstly you decrease the use of alochol/ sex and then you outlaw it.

*What does MUTA (temporary marriage) in Islam mean? *

Men can justify anything. The whole thing brings to mind
legalized temporary prostitution. No where in The Quran is
such a thing sanctioned. Modern celebrities and others these days do practically the same thing. Getting married for sexual pleasure purposes, then getting divorced at the first opportunity only to repeat the same thing again and some times again.

They do this to say they have satisfied the letter of the law.
Although in fact they have nullified the spirit and sanctity of the
sacred institution of marriage.

Translation of Sahih Bukhari, Book 59:
Volume 5, Book 59, Number 527:
Narrated 'Ali bin Abi Talib:

On the day of Khaibar, Allah's Apostle ( Muhammad ) forbade the Mut'a ( i.e. temporary marriage ) and the
eating of donkey-meat.

Have a pleasant day.

MUTAH is forbidden in Islam. It was invented by the Shia.

But even today some Shias are against it themselves...

Imagine, how can Islam grant permission for MUTAH (Temporary marriage for deriving sex) when it is so strict in inter-mingling of sexes.

A muslim man should NOT be alone with any other unknown woman and vice-versa,....

So how can Islam grant permission for such an act of fornication...???

MUTA in arabic means 'pleasure'...thus, Muta Marriage means "marriage of pleasure"...it differs from normal marrie in that it fulfills a particular purpose...allow me to explain:

a man would pay the woman a fee for her troubles of being taken for marriage, and they get married for a period of 24 hours to fulfill the pleasurable desires of marriage, and then its off...I think that's how it works.

I hope this helps.

It was first done during war time.

Shia do this sort of temporary marriage but it is not allowed in Islam.

The Shia have quite a few more different customs that are rooted in Judaism.....

Shia make up 9% of the 1.6 billion Muslims.
