I was 18 when this occurred and have since gone on to become a correctional officer, as well as having numerous jobs in armed security and several different firearms licenses. I don't believe I did anything that serious to disqualify myself

In my personal opinion you should have adult supervision around any/all firearms. You apparently don't know anything about SAFETY!!!! I have a record that won't allow me to own a firearm but I've forgotten more about them than you will ever know!!!!!!!

In the law of many common law jurisdictions, a summary offense is an offense which can be tried without an indictment. In practice, this often means a trial without a jury, jury trials being reserved for indictable of fences. Summary offenses are often "petty crimes" or crimes that are not considered very severe such as most driving offenses.

As long as there are no convictions of domestic violence or felonies you should be eligible for a law enforcement job!

Best wishes.

In Canada you can't become a police officer if you have ANY criminal conviction to which a pardon has not been granted.

Go get a pardon for this offence ASAP. If it happened a long time ago and if you have gone one to do good things (like it sounds) it should not disqualify you but it will make it harder to get hired.

It shouldn't prevent you from becoming a police officer. Be truthful about the incident when asked on your application and at your polygraph, though. Lying about it or failing to divulge it could prevent you from qualifying.

Not huge deal. If you have an otherwise clean record, you should be alright.
