Why is it everywhere you look...?
on the news...on the net....on the radio....on YA!
Why is there so much attention being given to these MEDIOCRE (at best) talents Blake Lewis and Jordin Sparks?

When Kelly Clarkson was in the finals....I CARED!
When Carrie Underwood was in the finals...I CARED!

There seems to be more hype now than ever before, with these two finalists who have NO stage presence or appeal, are NOT entertaining and, let's be honest here...
are not really, good enough singers worthy of being "America's best".
What?...this is the best we have to offer?

Or....maybe it's just me?

Consider my Question not so much as hyping the program or, "adding to the discussion myself", but more along the lines of "ANTI-Hype"...well-deserved criticism coming from folks like myself who just think too much attention is being given to this non-sensical, shallow-minded drivel known as Americal Idol 2007.

Thank you! finally someone that agrees with me. everyone thinks that im crazy because im not absolutely obsessed it. actually i dont like it much at all. i used to watch it and it was sort of funny at times...but i just got sick of it. exactl kelly and carrie were the good seasons. now its just LAME. you're absolutely right. it makes america look bad in a way if you think about it...because seriously we can do better. and the fact that the entire world is obsessed with it isn't any better!

I'm right there with you! There are all these other questions posted about Blake getting screwed, blah, blah, blah! I stopped caring about this show way back this season because there wasn't any real reason to watch! In my opinion Blake sucks and Jordin is just OK (at least she can sing.)

Melinda Dolittle should have won, but more often than not AI isn't about who the best SINGER is... and isn't that what it's supposed to be? I mean really, the only times they got it right were with Kelly and Carrie! Do you really think Ruben, Fantasia and Taylor are great singers? When was the last time you heard anything out of them!? The whole thing is a joke - especially this season. Just look at how long Sanjaya lasted! Need I say more...

Well, ironic that you are asking a question about something you say is everywhere, yet you have added to the discussion yourself.....

I beg to differ (please, please, let me differ) regarding the 'mediocrity' of Jordin or some of the other talent we saw this season. Have you actually listened to the radio lately? Or for that matter, go listen to half the junk on iTunes or eMusic. Many of those folks already have record deals for no discernible reason I can tell....

Part of the appeal has to be the really, really awful "singers" that end up on the blooper reels, but part of it is that there are folks who know they can't sing worth a lick (that would be me), and seeing people at least TRYING, then succeeding at it, allows for some of that 'vicarious living' people sometimes do.

It's really no different than why some people like certain sports 'stars' or watch other 'reality' shows... Frankly, we like to route for the 'common person' to be lifted up to their greatest potential.

For the record, I think Clarkson is about as run-of-the-mill cookie-cutter 'pop' star as they come....

I NEVER watch American Idol and I am STILL sick of it! Okay, so the joke about Sanjara or whoever was funny ...for about ten minutes...and Paula Abdul being tipsy was cute...but this show only exploits people so we can make fun of them. Of course there are exceptions, like Jennifer H. who won an Oscar for Dreamgirls, but PLEASE. I agree, I loved Kelly and Carrie. I don't think this is a matter of WHO is the best singer, I think this show was created so that horrible singers would be embarrassed on national television by their lack of singing ability. Remember that Asian guy who made it big by singing, "She Bangs"? A friend of mine actually bought his album because it was so terrible. This is rigged. You have Simon, a mean person, tossing out nasty barbs to everyone, and the other two are just comedic relief. This is a show about making fun of people who have the GUTS to appear on a show where they are going to be embarrassed by the world and you know what, America is lapping it up like a kitty drinking milk. Thank you. (P.S. Gene, I found and bought the Dinah Washington CD with "Relax, Max" on it. If it hadn't been for you, I would never have known about it! So thanks! :o)

I watched American Idol when Kelly and Ruben were on there after those seasons, I stopped watching. For me it's getting a little to old, I think that the show just needs to end, half of the peopl on the show suck. Kelly Clarkson was the only one that actually made, she could teach those other losers a lesson on how to make it big!!!!

when the show first aired its first season i was like WOW this is different and thought it would not air again for a couple of seasons because SO MANY people auditioned and surely america doesn't have THAT MUCH talent but it has been non stop i haven't watched it at all the past few seasons my husband bought me ruben's cd but i have yet to listen to it and my friend bought that movie from justin to kelly or something whatever happened to him anyway he is probablly getting drunk with paula HAHA nah it is not just you the show is DONE but simon is so into himself and his $$$$ that he won't let the show go and there are so many spin offs and i can't even watch those except to lmao and in that first season when the auditions were at the end of the season was histerical and we watch it when people audition and it is NOT even funny anymore just sad and you feel embarrassed for the contestants i don't find it entertaining AT ALL well i am with you it ran its course and now it is time to LET IT GO take care

You`re being used as pawns by the networks in this charade . The sooner people smarten up and realize no one gives a rat`s a** about the so-called American "idol" , the better .

The networks are laughing all the way to the bank (and at you) , while you sit and watch this brainless drivel with untalented jerks prancing around the stage . WAKE UP !

I have never watched American Idol, and I never will. The more a show is hyped, the less likely I am to watch it. If a show needs to be hyped up as much as American Idol how good can the show really be?

What's "American Idol"?

Just kidding, I have heard of the show and members of my family watch it but I couldn't care less. I'd rather play on the computer or watch a rerun of a 1960 situation comedy.

Seriously, I have NO interest what so ever for that show... BTW, "Dancing with the Stars" is on equal foot as far as I am concerned.

I am sick of the show period. To me reality tv is the worst form of so called entertainment. The beginning when people audition there are so many people who want to make a *** of themselves that it is just ridiculous. I wish it was off the air but it seems that I am a part of the small minority that feels this way. I guess that is why I have a remote and there are plenty of other channels to watch.
