I found yours to be the most excellent question in whole of R&S! God is not high, but impossible maintenence. Nobody can keep even 1 Law, let alone 10. That's where jesus comes in. He keeps the law perfectly. God's not asking u to keep the Law, he's asking that u believe Someone did it for u. As for punishment, the nails, the whip, thorns, beating n all-jesus flesh, bones and all were exposed to be barbequed in Israeli sun-that's d price he paid in our place. He even took your sin! Know it's very strange thinking that but the more u understand the easier to keep the law...m still learning too, ol'!

God is not high maintenance. He asks things of us not for His sake, but for ours. The law of God was put there to help us and make us happy. If everyone followed the law of God we would be happy, no one would hurt, everyone would take other people into consideration. But it is not that way, and for that reason the world is the way it is today.
The point is not of religion. The point is being saved.

My friend, this is not the God, high-maintenance, but our inner self and soul. That needs continuous maintenance and the prayers to the God are food of our souls and inner self.
The God Almighty is free of necessities.
Why God ask us to do so, as He is the one who made us and knows better what is best for us.
Like if you purchase a machine, you will find a operation manual attached by the manufacturer, as manufacturer knows better what is necessary for that machine.

He isn't too demanding, because He gives as good as He gets, and better! We deserve nothing, we're no one special and yet He gave His best--His Son--for us. And when we give him our hearts and lives, He gives and gives and gives some more: eternal life, blessing, support under pressure, growth, maturity--I could go on and on.
Yes, life on earth is hard. He acknowledged as much when Jesus said: "In this world you will have trouble, but take heart--I have overcome the world."
And it's not about religion--rites and ceremonies--but about a living, vital relationship with the One who loves each one as if we were the only one to love. He accepts us as we are, but thank God that he doesn't leave us as we are!

The point is that the priests can get rich quick or die trying

Edit: It's about power and control, if it wasn't then why can the Pope encourage hatred whilst hiding evil and sitting on a lot of riches that would be better given to the poor?

Isn't it contradictory in terms to think of humans maintaining their God? Is he not supposed to be completely independent? Thus God requires nothing and makes no demand of humans; all the so-called laws or demands of God are man-made.

High-maintenance???? He gave US everything! And all he asks in return is our love.
