It was about 70,000 people. But, some of them were miles away and not part of the event thus discounting mass hallucination. Many witnesses were anti-Catholic and the secular press was also there. Everyone witnessed it - believers and non- believers alike. The greatest miracle of modern times and yet people still refuse to not only believe it, but to even consider it. Amazing!
Cheers :-)

The miracle of the Sun that took place at the Cova `da`Iria in the townland of Fatima cannot be explained by science and has to have been the work of God.
More than 70,000 people witnessed it and among these were the Atheist Mayor of the neighboring town of Ourem.
Also present was the Atheist press who reported what they saw with great honesty it must be said to their credit.
Many have since tried to put forward explanations such as mass hypnosis and hysteria among other weak ideas and these have not held up,why? simply because the miracle of the Sun was actually witnessed by people up to 40kms away, and this too is documented and can be read quite easily.
Surely God was allowing this so that unbelievers too would not be able to doubt this incredible happening.
I advise anyone even Atheists to read and digest the enormous amount of factual eyewitness accounts from believers and non-believers alike.
The interesting thing about this stunning miracle is that it is only the second time in history that a solar miracle has happened, the first was when God stopped the journey of the Sun for Joshuah.

First guess would be an atmospheric disturbance caused by some kind of solar activity. That's one plausible possibility just off the top of my head. If I was really bothered I could think about it a while and come up with more.
Perhaps a sattelite was orbiting overhead pumping out microwaves. That is very possible and would certainly account for it.
Maybe they were all just looking at the sun through a heat haze and someone decided to get all poetic about it.
Miracle? That's the FIRST thing you think?
Clarify please - is this Fatima, Portugal or another Fatima? Because Fatima, Portugal is a town well known for religious hysteria and I will take anything that is claimed to have happened there with a very large fistful of salt.
But the most compelling 'evidence' is in your bible, where it states that there will be no more miracles of the nature that the one at Fatima is purported to be. You can't argue with that one.

First, honesty. The HIGHEST estimates were 100,000 people.Evidence is neutral,no need to stretch it.Some estimates were 1/3 of that. Then,I would tend to believe that it was mass hallucination. The idea that the sun actually "danced" would then bring an even bigger mystery. Why did God blind the sight of the other 4 billion people in the world at the time? Why did we not detect such an event that would have caused possibly the destruction of the entire planet. No camera caught it,our orbit did not change, therefore,it had to have been in their minds,as the " sun dancing"would have had very noticeable effects on the earth's orbit

Fatima has nothing to do with God, but rather myth and legend. Explaining how the sun was placed in the sky while the earth and planets revolve around it in perfect order, now that is ample proof that God exists. His existence resides in every man's heart; some simply shut out this inner voice of truth and wander aimlessly towards a terrible eternal existence without Him.

I'm not an atheist, but I will attempt it.
(1) Certain drug reactions can cause ones eyes to jiggle, which causes what you are looking at to jiggle. Perhaps looking at the sun long enough to burn the retina will do the same.
(2) Peer pressure. A few people say "Wow! Did you see that?" They describe what they saw, and if you didn't notice it, you may well say you did just to avoid an argument. In a crowd that could easily turn into a vicious mob if contradicted, this would be a very strong force indeed.
(3) Dishonesty on the part of the people reporting it after the fact.
In short, I don't think it happened.

As a trained Hypnotist: I may be able to answer your question.
People in the right state of mind will see and believe whatever they want, (or are 'programed' to see, hear and experience ) and religion is a type of programing. 150,000 Is a tall order but not impossible. Especially with zealots.

Yes, definitely. What is more stunning is the fulfillment of the prophecies revealed by the Blessed Mother.

No.
Proof of god is the constitution to unite heaven and end hell.
See:
http://one-heaven.org/constitution/heaven_0001.htm
But you and others refuse to read it.
Proof of god is the ucadian model which actually shows you how god created the universe, how everything is connected and gives you the strongest evidence to support a faith in god.
See:
http://ucadia.org/uca/u04/040100.htm
But you prefer to ignore the incredible miracle of this work.
Proof of god is all around you, yet you seek out literals and hocus pocus tricks of mass hypnosis.
A very sad state of affairs.

ok people, don't assume the sun danced in the sky because some anonymous person said it did. Just like the bible, i don't believe that there is a jesus. Just because some prick says something, doesn't make what they say true.
