Despite the fact Haille Sellasie was real, the cornerstone of Rastafarianism is the truth of Haille Sellasie's identity. If he was indeed who he claimed he was than Rastifarianism would be legitimate, however there is no real way of knowing.

As for "legitimate" religion, i'm not quite sure what that means.
