Define "a country" please.
Cyprus is an island in eastern Mediterranean. The south part is mainly Greek Cypriot and is known as the Rep. of Cyprus. The north part is mainly Turkish Cypriot and is known as the Turkish Rep. of Northern Cyprus (not recognized by any other except Turkey).
Syria on the other hand is about 110 kms east of Cyprus and borders south Turkey, west of Iraq. It is an Arab state.
