When I last gave blood the nurse did not use gloves to take my little sample for the prick test. Am I at any risk? Should i report it? What will happen if I report it?

Thanks for any answers!

Not a good practice on her part but she put herself at risk not you. A nurse is required to wear gloves when doing anything that involves body fluid but this is because she could get infected if the patient has a disease. Now if you had an open wound and the nurse was cleaning or dressing it then she would be putting you at risk for infection, either way she should be reported If she doesnt glove for blood draws I doubt she gloves for anything else either.

if her hands were clean and her skin was intact, there was no real reason for her to wear gloves, there was certainly no risk to you. Latex gloves are not going to protect her from a needle stick, and they won't protect you either as no one wears sterile gloves to draw blood. Truly the only time gloves would be a requirement would be if she had wounds on her hands that were open, then to protect you it would be a good idea. most nurses can't work if they have open wounds however.

Many Nurses do not use gloves, but they are only putting themselves at risk and not you.
