they tend to look like huge ugly pimples. They are caused by staph aureus, and generally will clear up on their own. You can encourage healing by applying moist heat for twenty minutes every hour or so. That will draw out the infection and allow the boil to drain. If you have the boil for more than a week you may need the attention of a doctor and some antibiotics.

The symptoms of boils are red, pus-filled lumps that are tender, warm, and/or painful. A yellow or white point at the center of the lump can be seen when the boil is ready to drain or discharge pus.

Ive had one and there nasty? they grow under your skin, and get bigger and bigger? get to the docs he might prescribe some anti-biotics to take it down? if its gone too far the only other way is surgery I'm afraid like i had? they scoop it out, then pack it with gauze, its a long process and you will have to have a nurse to your home every day to re-pack it,as these type of things have to heal from the inside out? mine was right near my scrotum and took ages to heal as well as being extremely pain-full? i bet you re not having a boil in the bag for tea tonight now are you?

Due to the higher temperature and sweat, bacteria in the skin develop and form boils. Keep the skin dry as much as possible. Use a prickly heat powder. Consult a doctor if needed.

That sounds like a boil. They get big and swollen red, often go shiny as well.

Soak in a bowl of hot water with Savlon/antiseptic to keep it clean and encourage it to go down.

Go to your GP if it doesn't start to go down in a couple of days.
