while the vast majority of people on earth that dont follow their faith burn in a torturous agony for all of eternity in the depths of hell without the "infinite mercy" of god?

sorry the question should have been; do believers find comfort THAT they will go to heaven?

Most 'believers' believe that this is a choice you make. They have no reason to feel guilty or uncomfortable by people making poor choices that result in punishment any more than most of us feel guilt or discomfort over the imprisonment or punishment of murderers and child molesters around us.

To most believers, it's quite clear - be saved by Christ, or die. (By the way... not all denominations believe that nonbelievers will 'burn in hell', but instead many believe that they will simply /die/, forever - which is actually more biblical.) It has nothing to do with "gosh, I'm worshipping a cruel god". It's more like: "Hey, you knew the consequences... don't stick forks into light sockets, don't touch the hot stove, don't skate on thin, cracking ice, and don't reject God."

An irrelevent question for most believers.

Yes, I find comfort in the knowledge that since I accepted Jesus as my Savior I will go to Heaven and be with Him but I want that for as many people here on Earth as possible because I don't want anyone to go to Hell.

If you don't accept Jesus while you are alive then you will go there, the choice really is yours.

We find comfort in knowing that we have put our lives into the hands of someone else. We do not fear hell, we do not fear what is evil... If there wasn't a heaven, we would still find comfort in God.

Yes. If I didn't believe I would go to heaven, then where would I go? Hell? I can't believe in one and not the other. I know I'm going somewhere, and I would like to believe it is heaven.

I find comfort in the fact that I believe I will never be separated from the goodness of God.

Of course I wish that for all people.

Listen I am a Christian and I won`t be totally comfortable until I am actually in Heaven and that`s the truth.

Apparently so... their answer would be we have free will and that our spirit tells us to make the right decision and accept jesus.

and people like you and I are evil and our hearts have been hardened for not believing the way they do.

amazing eh?

but just let 'em be. theres no reasoning with these people.

John 16:12-14

16:12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.
16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come.
16:14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall show it unto you.
