Some people follow internal cues for eating and others external cues.
People follow external cues will eat when they are not hungry and can often overeat as a result.
But it is more complicated than that. 3 meals a day is not normal for humans. We should be eating 6-9 small meals a day, as this is the most efficient way to eat. This is also a good thing to try when we want to build up muscle or body bulk.
So while you are not really hungry, when you have nothing better to do you will want to eat.
Here are some solutions. Don't buy too much junk food. That way you can't snack too often or when you do, maybe you will have a carrot or orange instead.
Secondly, find some other things to do. Exercise is one of them. But going to the gym takes time and eating is much easier to do.
One way is to get into a good routine and eat at regular times and eat regular amounts (if I snack, I have a smaller meal, then I am hungry and have to have another snack)
Some people are taking the view that it is better to not eat during the day and only have one big meal at night.

Yes, I was going to say boredom, but you beat me in that, I recommend finding a hobby or something that would distract you when you get bored.
Also, drinking water is confused with hunger, a lot of times. Drink a huge glass of ice water,,,,,mmmm, very good, but your body thinks it needs to snack when really you are just thirsty. You get water from food, but not as much as that big glass of water, try drinking eight glasses a day, it is very good for your liver and digestive processes.
I wish you luck on your boredom, I watch cold case files or home improvement shows, or even worse, Tyra, even though I can't stand her, lol.....I need hobbies, too, any suggestions??

i know exactly how you feel...im on study leave now and im at home with (what seems like) nothing better to do than snack! i think we r trying to avoid studying even though we have to!! i trick i use is to drink herbal teas or just water when im just feel like 'boredom eating'
the worst part is it will have a horrid effect on our waistline and our grades if we dont get it under control!!
