I do not drink Rootbeer often, but every time I drink the more common kinds such as A&W and Mug (But I seem ok with IBC?) I have a hangover like effect the next day and sometimes a mood swing or just feel somewhat lethargic and bad.

I did not think anything until it happened repeatedly, and every time I drank it I was in a bad mood the next day and got in arguments sometimes. EVERY time. I had that happen yesterday and recalled last time I drank it I felt the same way, and the time before..

Could I be allergic to some chemical or something in the root beer? Regular beer makes me sick.

A&W their draft root beer they put a wee bit of cooking oil in it to make it go down better. The same tactic that is used at Taverns. I know cause I worked at both. It's only in the drafts and if they preopened the beer bottles for you. This is why some drinkers prefer to open the beer bottles themself. They want to be sure there's nothing added to the beer. I get sick from draft root beer too. I don't at Mary Browns dinner cause she doesn't do that! I don't get sick from fountain root beer either! The tactic is a common practice secret... It's a secret so they won't admit to doing the secret practice. You only find out if you work in the business that does such a practice! The easier it goes down and the less it quenches the more they sell! That's why they do it!

i am thinking migranes and not hangovers. no clue what in a rootbeer would cause it though. migranes often have food triggers that doctors don't really understand. do you drink other sodas without any problems? caffiene can cause migraines and there is caffiene in some rootbeers -- even though most people think its caffiene free. caffiene can also end migraines -- so you can try a cup o coffee and see if it kills your headache.

typically migraines make you feel like you want to curl up in a ball in a quiet dark room.

hangovers are caused by dehyrdation and unless your rootbeer is making you pee like a racehorse then i don't think you have a dehydration problem.

rootbeer and beer are nowhere close to each other. as far as i know the only shared ingredient would be water.

Yes, it is very possible you are sensitive to something in the root beer, either a preservative or perhaps the sugar itself. I know when I get too much sugar I become an emotional basket case.

You may want to keep a root-beer diary, if you don't want to stop drinking it. That way you can find out which brands are causing the reaction. Also, make a note of the ingredients.

Good luck!

Sleep deprivation not only can cause mood swings, and depression but can make a person react as though he has been drinking too much, so be careful.
