Read the article. The author is seriously trying to pick apart the Church as being non-biblical, ignoring the truth spoken by the bishops in her own article.

The bishops are 100% right! The bible is not a history book! It is a book of faith. It is a book written by several different authors spanning thousands of years giving us one message: salvation through Jesus Christ. Period.

The author attempts to "prove" the Church is abandoning the bible when the bishops have done nothing any different than they've always done - explain to the faithful that the bible is a book of faith, not an encyclopedia. This is common sense. They are simply addressing the confusion caused by fundamentalists that interpret the wrong things literally. Additionally, the Church that gave us the bible is now going to leave it behind? Gimme a break.

God bless.

What the hell is that meant to characterize? How can there be 'some' elements? this is both entire actuality or no longer something in any respect.

THE hierarchy of the Roman Catholic Church has published a teaching document instructing the faithful that some parts of the Bible are not actually true

Some parts of the Bible are not actually true? What the hell is that supposed to mean? How can there be 'some' parts? It's either whole truth or nothing at all.

Thanks for that. I'm glad to read such a sensible article. If you actually get beyond the headline (obviously sensationalist) you will see the eminent good sense in what the Catholic bishop is saying.

How many times did Jesus speak in parables? MANY. It doesn't make sense to assume that all things in the Bible are meant to be taken literally.

Also, since the Catholics were the stewards of the Bible for centuries, and they are supposedly a "fallen" church, how would it be possible that the Bible completely escaped tampering?

If you really want to know God's infallible will, you'll have to get it straight from His lips.... or from the lips of his holy prophets. Until that time, I think a little humility and tolerance is called for among the brethren who share the written word of God as their source of inspiration.

Added: Something doesn't have to be the literal truth to be a representation of the truth. For instance, Jesus gave the parable of the Good Samaritain. When he was telling us that we should help victims of robbery by the wayside, and that we should "do likewise" was he only telling us to help victims of violent robberies, or was he asking us to help anyone that we saw was in need? The story is a representation of an eternal truth, but not an expression of literal truth.

Understanding the Bible requires prayerful THOUGHT.

How can they swear by the truth when they are Satanically inspired! Satan has done a wonderful job when it comes down to deception. He is a master counterfeiter and the father of lies as he has plastered the name of Jesus Christ on the front door of the RCC to get the people to come, and then brilliantly and masterfully twisted the truth of the Bible to ultimately mislead the multitudes of innocent people down the road to their inevitable death. Jesus Christ gave this powerful warning: "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!'" (Matthew 7:21-23).
The beautiful pageantry, the music, the pomp and ceremony and the intimidating power of this Babylonian system is very impressive. But only those who genuinely do God's will and keep His commandments—all ten of them—will be in Christ's soon-coming Kingdom. "Here is the patience of the saints; here are those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus" (Revelation 14:12).
At the very end of His inspired word, our Creator tells us plainly: "Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city. But outside are dogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and whoever loves and practices a lie" (Revelation 22:14-15). The religious sorcery and idolatry of the Babylonian system is enticing to millions. The vast majority follow that way. But the above passage warns about anyone who "loves and practices a lie." The teachings of modern "Babylon" are filled with lies, misunderstandings and pagan practices. Satan has been extremely clever in creating a counterfeit Christianity, which looks so much like the original that untold millions have been deceived. Those who follow this pagan counterfeit religion will suffer the full fury of their Creator when the Trumpet Plagues and the Seven Last Plagues are poured out on a rebellious world (Revelation 8, 9, 16).
Yet God's word describes the temporary wealth and power of this system: "For your merchants were the great men of the earth, for by your sorcery all the nations were deceived. And in her was found the blood of prophets and saints, and of all who were slain on the earth" (Revelation 18:23-24). And how will it end? "Then a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone and threw it into the sea, saying, 'Thus with violence the great city Babylon shall be thrown down, and shall not be found anymore'" (v. 21).

This story is badly reported but nothing new.

There is a fundamental difference between truth and fact.

It is true that God exists but I cannot prove it.

It is a fact that President Bush said he invaded Iraq because of weapons of mass destruction but it is not true.

Catholics believe that the Bible teaches truth about God but it is not historically factual at all times.

The Bible's primary purpose is to teach us the truth about God and His (or Her) love for us, not to teach facts about history or science.

With love in Christ.

The Catholic Church also decided to change its stance on limbo, proclaiming it shouldn't be (limbo being the place where babies go when they do and haven't been baptized). In the end its all interpretation and things added that aren't in the Bible.
