Most people rarely think for themselves; or they think they're thinking for themselves when they're simply reciting what they've been told. Indoctrination and propaganda are our constant companions during childhood, at home and in school and everywhere else; most people accept all of it because they know of no reason to challenge any of it.
You'd think we could come up with something better.

I can't speak for others who do that, if I cut and paste an excerpt to include in an answer, it's because I'm looking for a pertainent example to include in an answer, or because I think it applies, but then I do have a problem with people who cut/paste entire wikipedia articles or entire sections of the bible when they could have posted a pertainent excerpt, and a link to view the rest of it...

Maybe they think that someone else said it better.
Just because you cut and paste doesn't mean you didn't answer the question. Plenty who type their own words don;t even bother to answer the question.
