Sure it's safe to drink, the tequila itself will kill any germs that might have been on the worms. I have eaten the worms in Mescal before, it's supposed to bring you good luck if you're the one that gets the last pull on the bottle.

TEQUILA: Actually tequila made with the maguey (Mag-E) worms is usually called mescal. Moer or less it's the same product and it is safe to drink. In more rural parts of Mexico the worms are eaten reguarly as part of a meal and are not harmful. They live under the agave (a-gave-ay) plant where tequila is made from. Tequila is 40% alchol by volume so if there were any germs/bacteria present they would beek killed by the alchol.

You should be fine, but start by having a small sip,Not a shot.

The worms were pickled and disinfected by the alcohol. It was a fluke that you got two in the bottle. I think I would consider that lucky and save the bottle or you might make some money if you want to sell it on Ebay. There is one for your "Show me state"-find out what it is worth to others. As for eating the worms, well, the idea is to drink them but if you want to eat them, they are going the same place and the same destiny so it won't matter as long as you are not allergic to worms. People eat alot bugs anyway, some knowingly as part of 3rd world staples or delicacies, and some unknowingly, so the choice is yours I guess.

What you have is mescal. Mescal is not pasteurized so they put the worm in the bottle to make sure the alcohol content is high enough to kill any bacteria that might be running around in there. Tequila is pasteurized Mescal, it does not have the worm because the process of pasteurizing kills anything in the tequila.

Don't know if it's true, but I heard if the worm doesn't die soon enough after being dropped in, it's a sign of a bad batch and they dump it.
Eating the worm tho is the same as eating fruit that has soaked in alcohol. Meaning there's alot of concentrated alcohol there.

It's OK to eat the worm. It's "cured" and cannot hurt you. Folks used to say that it contained mescal and would make you trip... but that's just a bunch of crap.

It's an American marketing gimmick, and it's okay to eat them. I saw Mexican businessmen eating worm tacos when I was in Mexico City. I asked the waiter in my minimal Spanish and he verified they were indeed gusanos.

DO NOT EAT THE WORM!

The worm is eatable but it will make you do the dumbest things you've ever done in your life. I've eaten the worm twice, I will never do it again. :-)

Drinking tequila in itself can be dangerous...worms or no worms.
