America is now in for the most part an unpopular war. In my opinion, now that we are in it, we must finish the job or we will have the same kind of death and destruction in our own neighborhoods soon thereafter. Why do most Americans think that in a war we have been in for 4 years now, that just over 3400 troops that have died thus far, is too many? Obviously it is a very sad day when even one American soldier, sailor, marine or airman dies. But it is a cost now that must be paid to ensure that in American streets in the future, we don't have car bombs and suicide vests blowing people up everyday. Can you imagine? I mean really imagine? So why do we Americans not see that this death toll (much lower than any 4 year war+) is worth the cost we are paying? I think as Americans, we have lost our Courage or our determination...maybe even some National pride. Please response coherently...even you democrats.

I don't think we ever had our determination.

I agree with you. I think this could be a fight for our survival, but people are spoonfed by the media and many don't see the criticality of this conflict.

In World War II there were days we lost as many men as we have lost in Iraq in four years. The difference was that the media were "on board" and saw the need for victory instead of being mired in political issues and accusations.

We can also blame a Congress that contains very few military veterans or people with any sort of military background.

Maybe we need to have a few malls attacked and maybe we do need more terrorism in our own streets. That is horrible to contemplate, but I don't know if our attention can be gotten any other way.

I see the need. We gave up in Vietnam when we could have actually won if we hadn't let the media and politicos tell us we had lost. Thank God we didn't have this crew in charge and influencing how we think in 1941-1945. We'd have lost to three very bad regimes in Germany, Italy and Japan.

But the public wasn't told the negatives, only that we needed to win, and nobody is telling the public that now.

Sad. I hate to see America lost this way. But it may be inevitable.

Huh america became in the worlds superpower in 1900 last time i checked britains empire was at its height. America didnt become a superpower until 1950,China economy is already steadly growing and they are your personal lender they could collapse your economy at any time with how many bonds they own in your country. Americas century is nearly over you cant even reform your healthcare without nearly bankrupting yourselfs stop been so single minded and learn more about the world for your self instead of listening to fox/cnn propoganda machines.

Yes, because the Americans have lost america itself to the greediness of the multinationalcorporations and the like. They have been mesmerized by the democracy showstoppers pretending that they have been doing much for american people. But who really is wielding the "determination" but the profit-pacmans. Americans have become victims of their own american private corporations. For whose benefit, may I ask? Think deep and look around you...those credit cards have become your new masters. Materialism has made americans like zombies moving around without direction, without goal.EMPTY yet proud.

Determination gets generated when you fight for a cause.
If a decision is imposed on a nation; that the complete nation feels guilty about and is not at the back of the fighting troops, the determination melts.

We lost our determination as a country when we allowed the courts to legislate. We lost our determination as a country when we stopped holding elected officials accountable. We lost our determination as a country when politicians decided to make politics a career instead of a civil service.

The reason you are in a war is nothing to doi with defending your country. You started this war. You started it by mistaking patriotism for blind obedience. Iraq has never been a threat to America. You have been too lazy, blind and foolish to research the situation for yourself. Those of you who are prepared to just say,,,,, the president said it , I saw it on T.V. therefore it must be true let`s follow the leader,,,,,,,,, have let down your fellow countrymen. Patriotism is the desire to ensure the well being of your fellow countrymen not sending them of to kill and be killed by every chimp that swings into the white house. Be a real patriot and friend of America and find out what you are talking about.

The USA has struggled with liberalism acutely since the 1960s

That was a dark era for Americans, and we are still recovering from it's ill-effects

I find it hard to believe you could be in 22 years and think this way. Were you even in Iraq? What did you accomplish there? I think you are full of crap.
