They do have a specific version of the Holy Bible that no one else uses, and the only one they are permitted to use.

The New World Translation of the Bible is Jehovah's Witnesses own translation, no other religious group uses this Bible.

Jehovah is a pretty well accepted adaptation to the 4 letters used in God's name in the bible. "YHWH"
While the bible holds guidelines, such as "do not become unevenly yoked with unbelievers" we do understand to live in this world you need to be around people who aren't necessarily of your own faith - like school, and work and even family members.
If you've been turned down by a JW girl, it's likely that she doesn't feel the need to be dating yet. We try not to until we are ready for marriage, since that really is the purpose of dating, or having a relationship with someone of the opposite sex.
If you are confused, or have any questions, I see no reason you can't direct them to this person you are referring to.

>where do they get that name from?

From the bible.

Is. 43:12 - and ye are my witnesses, saith Jehovah, that I [am] God.

> how did they come to think that Gods name was Jehovah?

Jews removed the vowels from God's name and wrote down "YHWH". Because the name was no longer pronounced and its own vowels were not written, its own pronunciation was forgotten. When Christians, unaware of the Jewish tradition, started to read the Hebrew Bible, they read YHWH as written with YHWH's consonants with Adonai's vowels, and thus said or transcribed Iehovah. Christian Europeans read it and used the letter "J" calling god "Jehovah".

>do they have a different bible then Christians do?

All bibles come from the same manuscripts. Some bibles have errors in them (KJV has the word Unicorn in it) because of the translation. Rather then sticking to old English the NEW WORLD TRANSLATION produced by JWs use modern English with out the errors from the King James Version.

2Ti 3:16 All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God

>what is there law on being friends or possibly being in a relationship with a Christian or any other faith?

The bible makes it clear not to associate with others not believing in Jehovah God. You can still work with them; go to school with them, ect. But the bible frowns on becoming unevenly yoked with unbelievers.

Deuteronomy 7:1-4: "Do not intermarry with them, giving your daughters to their sons or taking their daughters for your sons, for that would turn away your children from following me, to serve other gods.

>refuse to even allow her to talk to people outside of their "faith"

The parents are protecting not just their daughter but you also. They know from experience and from scripture that marrying someone not in your faith is VERY difficult and will bring heartaches.

2 Corinthians 6:14-15: "Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers:

Jehovah is God's name as found in the Bible.

Several translations of the Bible use the name Jehovah at least once. Originally, that name appeared almost 7,000 times. Most Bibles leave it out and replace the name with titles such as 'Lord' or 'God'.

Take a look at your Bible and see if it appears in one of the following scriptures:

Psalm 83:18
Isaiah 12:2
Isaiah 26:4
Exodus 3:15
Exodus 6:3

Here's a few Bible translations that use the name Jehovah in at least one of its original places:

New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures
American Standard Version
Authorized King James Version
New English Bible

If your Bible does not contain the name Jehovah in any of the scriptures I listed above, read the preface, or introduction towards the front of your Bible. The translators usually aknowledge that God's hebrew name (likely Yahweh or Yehowah, no one knows for sure) has been replaced with the titles Lord or God, usually in all capital letters. Of course in taking God's name out of the Bible, they have commited the sin found at Revelation 22:18. Nobody has the right to take out God's name and replace it with titles.

“YOU are my witnesses,” is the utterance of Jehovah, “even my servant whom I have chosen, in order that YOU may know and have faith in me, and that YOU may understand that I am the same One. Before me there was no God formed, and after me there continued to be none. (Isaiah 43:10)
God's name is also in the bible..in Psalms 83:18 "That people may know that you, whose name is Jehovah,
You alone are the Most High over all the earth. " and there bible is translated from the Hebrew and Greek original text there's only recommendations to marry with in the same faith. but if your already married with someone from a different doctrine he/she need to respect and with there acts and behavior win there partner to there side and this could take years..but the bible those recommend that you should not do that 2 Corinthians 6:14 "Do not become unevenly yoked with unbelievers. For what fellowship do righteousness and lawlessness have? Or what sharing does light have with darkness?" hope this answers your questions...in the last part of course it would be better for a Jw get married to a Jw but if he/she was already married to a non-believer they are not going to tell the brother/sister to divorce his/her wife cause they don't want to study the bible...with time they will change...we hope that your not afraid to study with us for that...OK

The name Jehovah was used for over a hundred years before the King James Version was released in 1611. The KJV uses the name "Jehovah" four times, and "Jah" another four times.

Jehovah's Witnesses both witness personally and bear witness to others regarding God's personal name, his majestic personality, and Kingdom purposes. In doing so, they align themselves with Jesus Christ and the prophets.

(Isaiah 43:10) “You are my witnesses,” is the utterance of Jehovah

(Isaiah 43:12) So you are my witnesses,” is the utterance of Jehovah, “and I am God.

(Hebrews 12:1-2) Because we have so great a cloud of [Jehovah's] witnesses surrounding us, let us also put off every weight and the sin that easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, as we look intently at the Chief Agent and Perfecter of our faith, Jesus

(Revelation 1:5) Jesus Christ, “the Faithful Witness”

(Acts 5:38,39) Do not meddle with these men, but let them alone; (because, if this scheme or this work is from men, it will be overthrown; but if it is from God, YOU will not be able to overthrow them;) otherwise, You may perhaps be found fighters actually against God.”

P.S. Witnesses choose their own associates, but of course minor children respect the wishes of the parents.

OK first I'll have to admit that I really don't know a whole lot about them myself, so what I tell you is really just what I've heard and my not be facts :)

They don't believe you'll ever have an earthly death if your truly following the Lord, thus the older you are, the more Godly you are, and you only die an earthly death if you did something wrong (weather you did it by mistake, or knew you did it.)

Some of them don't believe in going to war, cause the Bible says, "Thou Shalt Not Kill'

A lot of people consider them a cult because they 'stay in their group' and follow a leader

I'm not really sure if they aren't allowd to be with others or not...I do know that they come to our house from time to time to wittness, so apparently they get together with other people some.

Oh, and the Bible says that one of Gods name is Jehovah...so I'm assuming thats where they got that. (Other names for him are Prince of Peace, Alpha and Omega, Father, Son, God, Mighty God, Counseler, ect.)

Jehovah” is the best known English pronunciation of the divine name, although “Yahweh” is favored by most Hebrew scholars. The oldest Hebrew manuscripts present the name in the form of four consonants, commonly called the Tetragrammaton (from Greek "tetra", meaning “four,” and "gramma", “letter”). These four letters (written from right to left) are הוהי and may be transliterated into English as YHWH (or, JHVH).

Jehovah's Witnesses are not a sect or cult. They are Christians who bear witness regarding Jehovah God and his purposes affecting mankind. They base their beliefs only on the Bible (not on traditions like other religions) which is the inspired Word of God.

"All Scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness, that the man of God may be fully competent, completely equipped for every good work." -- 2 Thimothy 3:16, 17

According to the Bible, the line of witnesses of Jehovah reaches back to faithful Abel.

“By faith Abel offered God a sacrifice of greater worth than Cain . . . By faith Noah, after being given divine warning of things not yet beheld, showed godly fear . . . By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed in going out into a place he was destined to receive as an inheritance . . . By faith Moses, when grown up, refused to be called the son of the daughter of Pharaoh, choosing to be ill-treated with the people of God rather than to have the temporary enjoyment of sin . . . So, then, because we have so great a cloud of WITNESSES surrounding us, let us also put off every weight and the sin that easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us." -- Hebrews 11:4-12:1

Jesus Christ is called a WITNESS.

"These are the things that the Amen says, the faithful and true WITNESS, the beginning of the creation by God." -- Revelation 3:14

The beliefs and practices that the Jehovah's Witnesses have are a restoration of first-century Christianity.

""You are my WITNESSES," is the utterance of Jehovah, "even my servant whom I have chosen, in order that you may know and have faith in me, and that you may understand that I am the same One. Before me there was no God formed, and after me there continued to be none. I—I am Jehovah, and besides me there is no savior."
"I myself have told forth and have saved and have caused [it] to be heard, when there was among you no strange [god]. So you are my WITNESSES," is the utterance of Jehovah, "and I am God."" -- Isaiah 43:10-12

"You will be WITNESSES of me both in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria and to the most distant part of the earth." -- Acts 1:8

Jehovah's Witness can use any Bible but they prefer the New World Translation because of its accuracy and because it restored God's name.

I asked Jehovah's Witnesses why do they knock on my door at seven in the morning and they still haven't given me a straight answer. If you are asking something from them, you are wasting your breath. And if you are one of them....I feel very sorry for you.
