PROS: Hawaii is absolutely beatiful. I mean, it's Hawaii. You got beaches wherever you turn, and scenic mountain ranges behind you. You're weather forecast is relatively the same throughout the year, and perpetual sunshine provides a laid back attitude for everyone. The people are very nice and always willing to help. The surf is the best in the world. The diversity of the people means that there is every type of food you can think of, from Korean to Southern soul food. We also have the second lowest unemployment rate in the nation, meaning that you'll almost guarantee get a job if you're qualified.
CONS: It's expensive. Paradise definitely has a price. A single family home in Hawaii easily sells for more than $550,000, and rent is proportionally high. At more than $3.20 a gallon, gas prices are still rising. Because we do live on an island, land is also a vital resource, and all of the people moving to Hawaii are really cramping the amount of general space on the land, which really takes away from its beauty. In addition, you may find that Hawaii isn't exactly what you see in the movies, and a few locals actually resent outsiders because of the low land availability.
All in all, though, I still live in Hawaii. I could have easily moved to the mainland many times, and if I bought a house for the same amount on the mainland, I'd have a huge mansion instead of a busted up shack. But it's worth it. The beauty of the sunrise every day and the always available surf and sun make every day better than the last. You never really forget that you're living in Paradise!

The Biggest Pro has to be the weather. Even on Muggy days during the summer, it is not to bad.
I love the beach.
I love the people and the cultural diversity. I am Puerto Rican, Cherokee, English, Irish, Scotch, Welsh, Swiss-German, Portuguese; my step-family is Hawaiian-Chinese; I work with some really great Filipino women. We celebrate the New Year in both Japanese and Chinese traditions. Baby Luau and Graduation parties that every one comes too. Family.
The Biggest Con is the cost of living. I live on Oahu. The Median cost of a new single family home is about $550,000. A condo is about $350,000. Our Neighbors recently moved and are renting out their house. For 3 br., 1 1/2 bath, they are charging $2500 a month. A gallon of milk at Costco or Sam's Club is now just over $4. I purchased fresh fruits at Safeway and the least expensive were the pineapple and the watermelon, both $0.99/lb. Oranges were $1.59/lb, apples were $2.29.

Pros: You live near the beach in great tropical weather with people who like the sun and surf.
Cons: The economy sucks. Its hard to get a decent job that pays well and that's tough when everything is so damn expensive! You will also experience island fever which is almost like claustrophobia because the islands are soooo small. You literally feel like you're trapped on a little piece of land with little place to go. Third, the natives are not friendly and resent Haolis (whites), especially on the less populated islands like the Big island.
As you can see, the cons outweigh the pros and I wouldn't move there if I were you. Vacation yes, live no! (Can you tell I've tried?)

My late grandma moved there and got a condo in a high rise, but moved back in about 2 years because housing costs and even the costs of ordinary things like groceries were too high. My friend is from HI and his ma said that housing is so bad that no one lives in a house by themselves, usually people have to split one with 3-4 other people just to afford it.

Pro's: It's beautiful, the weather pretty much stays the same (around 85degF), the people are great, it's the place to be if you love the ocean.
Con's: The weather stays the same, there is only so much land (you can get claustrophobic).
