I have spent the last fifteen years raising my three children and would love to start a career. Is there anything out there for me? I am so afraid to be the oldest in the college classroom - I already feel old enough. (I am 42)

Don't worry about being the oldest! You would be surprised at the demographics of colleges these days. I recently took an online course from a junior college, and the majority of the other students were women your age or older with children.

If you look at your local community colleges, you should find a lot of programs that prepare you for a good career. Good luck!

I went back to school three times after 40. They wanted three years experience with a Certificate as a Legal Secretary. hen I wanted to try cosmetology and accounting. There are older people in colleges. It's hard to get the job afterwards. I am trying to start an internet business.

Come on. Old at 42 ??? There are loads of people whom work right up to the age of 65. What are you interested in ? Why not get a part time job in a department store, build your confidence and move on from there.

Yeah! You could be a childcare provider or teacher and take care of more kids!

Ok you can slap me now. I bet you are wanting to get AWAY from wiping snotty noses.

There are MANY nontraditional students. or older people in college now. Many older jobs are becoming obsolete and new technology and outsourcing are all combining to require people to learn new skills. You will NOT be the only one.

Go for it.

The first question is, what do you want to do? And then yes, you can do it. The only thing holding you back is you. I go to college and there's always some older people around, it's not that rare.
