CC Adi 4.164: Lust and love have different characteristics, just as iron and gold have different natures.
CC Adi 4.165: The desire to gratify one's own senses is kama [lust], but the desire to please the senses of Lord Krishna is prema [love].
CC Adi 4.166: The object of lust is only the enjoyment of one's own senses. But love caters to the enjoyment of Lord Krishna, and thus it is very powerful.
CC Adi 4.167-169: Social customs, scriptural injunctions, bodily demands, fruitive action, shyness, patience, bodily pleasures, self-gratification and the path of varnasrama-dharma, which is difficult to give up -- the gopis have forsaken all these, along with their families, and suffered their relatives' punishment and scolding, all for the sake of serving Lord Krishna. They render loving service to Him for the sake of His enjoyment.
CC Adi 4.170: That is called firm attachment to Lord Krishna. It is spotlessly pure, like a clean cloth that has no stain.
CC Adi 4.171: Therefore lust and love are quite different. Lust is like dense darkness, but love is like the bright sun.

Lust is just a physical attraction for the person and you want it to a point that you would do anything for it.
Love is not something that you would do in harm of another person.
The question what does love really mean between you and the other person? And that should be a good effect on both of you.

Lust, is a desire for something that opposes the word of God. so not just sexual desire out of marriage, but strong desire for anything unGodly. Love, is a choice. Love is a decision to love someone without terms and conditions for as long as you live. love, can be in a friendship also. there are four types of love. Agape (God's unconditional love which as a Christian you are capable of giving to others also if you are obedient and willing.) Storge' - the kind of love that is between family members, like a mother and child. Fillio - (im not sure thats spelled right) but the kind of love between the best of friends, u know the kind that are friends forever. and Eros - romantic love between a husband and wife (or to the world, this is called lust, and is just sexual desire toward the opposite sex no matter the marital status, but there IS a difference between lust and Eros. Eros is encouraged between married couples. lust, is not encouraged at all in any area of life.)

The great saint Srila Krsna Das Kaviraja has given a conclusion on the subject matter
quoting from Chaitanya caritamrita
"atmendriya priti iccha tare bali kama
krsnendriya priti iccha dhare prema nama"
The desire to gratify and please ones own self or senses is called Lust
And the desire to serve Krishna's (Gods) senses is called LOVE
This definition may seem extreme but if one deliberates on the nature of the soul he will see no exaggeration here
love for God is the nature of the soul. When we love something else it is a distortion of that love and therefore temporary and meagre
love in this world starts off in the high end and ends up in the low end
and even if one may think some love is selfless then do consider it still has a end
Only love directed towards God is eternal and always increasing. It manifested as an unbroken flow like honey falling and completely satisfies the soul.

Love is the sincere and serene feeling ( Bhaava) one can render to all - all in the world. It starts from our inner heart and it flows without any break. The real love can not be equated to anything else in the world. The one who really loves others does not expect any thing in return. To create our mind as the source of love one has to pass so many hurdles. It occupies the whole space of our heart thereby replacing all other bad thoughts and evil spirits.
Where as lust is already with your mind. It is the fruit of 'Kaama' . A desire to enjoy sex, a desire to pocess something as your own, may be owned by somebody else and so on. This is the result of an evil thought.

Since I don't believe in religion, I use lust in it's non-religious form meaning desire. I have been married a long time, and I certainly lust for my husband. I got in hot water with someone in here over that, but like many other words, there are many meanings.

Lust is one of the sensory pleasure. Like gluttony is for the tongue. Lust is for Genitals. But all sensory pleasures have a start and a end. The joy of enjoying them is very very less and lowlevel compared to the joy we want.
Love is a experience. It generates joy. Experience of that joy is much superior to joy offered by the sensory pleasures.

What is the difference between LOVE AND LUST?
Lust involves the selfishness of serving one's own senses, while love involves selfless service to God's transcendental senses. Lust is that selfish desire that passes as love for as long as, and to the extent that, God is not present in the human equation. Krishna represents the transcendental senses of the Godhead. He is the incarnation of the act of love devoid of any selfish desire. He is also known as kama (cupid), but he is kamadeva, the God of amorous desire. Thus he conquers all desire, not by extinguishing it, but by redirecting it to himself. The canvass on which his love play is drawn is the Vedanta of Srimad Bhagavatam. The love play of his lila itself is thus the fullest expression of Vedanta, revealing the most secret esoteric implications of the sober utterances of the Upanisads. -

lust is a impure , finite , mortal part of love if it is done for the God.
if done for self then it is karam bhog (if karmas are done for that otherwise it will be sin) and is not love for the God. you can say it is the love for your desire or your self.in that case it will be harmfull for you because it eats your time , which is assigned for doing the karmas.if your requirements are not met , it causes anger ,which is very dangerous.
even if the lust done for the God , is finite ,destructive and impure love for the God. it is the seen in the begining of the process of learning of the love hence it is also known as mortal love for the God.
real love for the God is infinite, immortal and pure.
