Stretch marks are a normal part of puberty for most girls and guys. When a person grows or gains weight really quickly (like during puberty), that person may get fine lines on the body called stretch marks. Stretch marks happen when the tissue under the skin is pulled by rapid growth or stretching. Although the skin is usually fairly elastic, when it's overstretched, the normal production of collagen (the major protein that makes up the connective tissue in your skin) is disrupted. As a result, scars called stretch marks may form.
People who are obese often have stretch marks. Bodybuilders are prone to getting stretch marks because of the rapid body changes that bodybuilding can produce. Stretch marks also may occur if a person uses steroid-containing skin creams or ointments (such as hydrocortisone) for more than a few weeks, or has to take high doses of oral corticosteroids for months or longer.

They can be from hormonal changes, and losing or gaining weight. You may have had them before losing the weight, but they really weren't as visible when they were "stretched" out as they are now. When I lifted weights, I got a few, because even as I was losing weight, I was rapidly gaining muscle. The good news is that yours are weak, and they do diminish with time. If yours are still pink (fresh) rather than white, using Retin-A type products can actually greatly reduce the chances of them sticking.

If you already have stretchmarks it takes surgery to get rid of them. Anyways, drink lots of water to make yourself feel fuller before meals so you'll eat less. Also, do crunches, sit ups, and push ups for 20 minutes in the morning and at night. Go for a 30 minute walk, jog, bike ride, or swim! Swimming is the best way to loose weight because it works all of your muscles. Allow yourself to have 1 high calorie meal a week so that you have something to look forward to. Good luck!

Stretch marks are a sign that the skin is being pulled apart by growth. It's scar tissue that is created in lieu of the less elastic skin (skin being stretched too far). In other words, it means you're gaining weight -- or at least volume.
Think of scar tissue as a bridge between gaps in normal skin.

i'm not sure why everyone is saying you get stretch marks when you gain weight. i always thought it was the opposite and i only got stretch marks when i started losing weight.
i heard you get red stretch marks when you gain weight, but white ones when you lose.

It actually means the opposite. You're gaining weight, you might want to check your diet, if that was the cause of the problem.
