Legally I supposed you'd have to dispose of it. Morally and ethically I'd ignore the law because the government that enacted it is no longer legitimate.

ATF provides a service for Police departments that will track a specific firearm and you can get all the owners, where it was originally sold etc. I know, I have used it before I retired from the Police department. There may not be any registration on a firearm in your state but it is a short jump from having the manufacture supply destinations on weapons and then registered owners. Even buying private sale, used firearms will have the same process. Just have to go one further and contact the listed owner, squeeze him for who he sold it to and then voila. Done deal!
Follow your conscience. Long term store it , sell it, move to a better state, etc. There are no permanent rock solid answers, just ways to slow down the inevitable.

A friend of mine lived in California a few years back when they passed a bunch of gun ban laws. The State ordered those gun owners to turn the rifles in by a certain date or be prosecuted. He "sold" the guns to me before the dead line. The State still demanded that he prove he no longer had the guns. I had to send photos and a certified letter listing the serial numbers to get the state off his back. He finally moved out of the state several months later and I "sold" the guns back to him.
If your state banned your gun, you will either have to get rid of it or turn it over to the state. If you own a gun that is banned in a state you plan on moving to, you can not bring the gun into the state.

Most gun "bans" have clauses built in to make exceptions for existing weapons. They are hard to pass otherwise.
Generally you can't move somewhere with a banned weapon. You'd have to sell it then move. That's the case with California. You can't move here with a banned "assault weapon," for example, or high capacity magazines.

First of all your state probably does not have gun registration so how are they going to know you have the gun ? Second of all the government has no right to confiscate your weapons. If it comes to that you have to ask yourself if you are a free man or a sheep.

the firearm in question if baned could be grandfather clause in as as long as you own it \ however that would mean you would lose,s out if you had to sell it because then your only recourse would be to sell it the a gun dealer
