God does not cause these things to happen, its Satan the Devil and his demons that cause horrible thing to happen. Satan hates innocent children and all people because we are made in the image of God almighty and he wants us all dead anyway he can.
But why doesn't God stop these horrible thing from happening, How can God allow this?
Again, God doesn't! He has given all men free will to do what they like while on his earth. This life is a test; people have the choice, the choice of doing good or evil. To choose God or Satan.
Everything we do while on this earth, every thought action and word spoken will be judged by God when we die.
Remember, Satan is the cause for all sin, death, rape murder poverty child molestation etc, etc… every single thing that goes against God and his nature.
So don’t blame God. If you want to blame someone blame Satan he is the reason for this world’s sin.

Nanook- thanks for your responds! Our flesh belongs to this world; it will rot in the ground. Who rules this world/ Lucifer Why? Because Adam gave up that right in the garden of Eden. However, if we turn from our wicked ways and become born again in Christ all authority will be given to us from God while we are on this earth. So that means we Spirit filled, born again Christians have the power in us to defeat Satan and his evil.
Satan controls the flesh because the flesh belongs to him. Non believers are puppets to him and so are some Christians. It’s a constant fight against the flesh while on this earth. It is fleshly nature to sin, but some people are so consumed by the devil and his hate they kill, torture, and murder.

According to your Bible, God created evil.

"I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things." (Isaiah 45:7)

Pain is caused by a number of things. Illness and injury principally. Suffering is generally caused by holding on to some frustrated desire. Nothing ever caused "tortuer." Hunger is caused by the body's desire to consume food. Death is caused by the cessation of life.

There is no Satan.

The whole silly notion of "demons" is a result of the change in perception of the earth's relationship to the other planets during the Hellenistic period. When it was clear that the earth was not a disc floating on a lake in the center of the universe, the gods were relocated from Mt Olympus to some super-lunar place beyond man's reach. People missed the familiar relationship they had with the nearer gods and created imaginary beings called "daemons" to take their place. These demons could be bribed or begged or otherwise influenced to do the humans' will. Gradually there appeared evil "daemons" who became the devils so many still believe in.

Imagine that there is no Satan, for a moment and that Satan does not cause these ills you speak of. Satan never made you do anything, he never even made you neglect your spelling and grammar. You did that.

This is such a childish way of thinking! The world isn't so simple. You can't have one almighty Good person and one almighty Bad person and that's that.

And can you honestly say that God sits back and watches African babies dying because we have free will? If he has the power to do something to help those babies, then he should. And if he doesn't he's either non-existant or not the great God you think he is.

Here is the answer to your question: There are two things that make bad stuff happen - people and nature.

To say this life is no more than a test is to devalue it and that is atrocious.

As others have said, we don't blame either imaginary being.
We think you are just personifying goodness and badness. When a good thing happens you are prone to think someone made it happen, and if it wasn't a person, you think it must be a god or an angel. Likewise when a bad event happens you think someone must have made it happen, and you assume the devil or a demon. But these are just forms of superstition. Things happen, and the impact of natural events can cause both good and bad fortune, without the events being caused by some entity.

Most people who start their statements with "I don't want to offend you" lie. Let me say, I think it might be fun to offend you by recommending that you get on line and do a Bible search for the word Satan. I believe that you will find little in the Bible for which Satan could be prosecuted in a court of law. He was disrespectful and arrogant but not a felon. On the other hand, God's burning his child is a sign of bad parenting skills at the least and more likely serious criminal behavior for which anyone could be prosecuted.
In reality, Satan acted much more like a skeptical scientist than a felon. God, on the other hand, engaged in horrific acts of barbarism and genocide for which many have been prosecuted.
The real reason that Christians thoroughly hate Satan is that he questioned God's authority, the most serious and unforgivable affront to the religious. God burns em in hell, Christians burn them for real.

Pain is caused by signals sent to the brain, usually to the thalamus and from there to the cortex. Suffering is caused by our hopes not being met and our fears being realized. Torture is caused by cruel people who were not hugged enough as children. Hunger is caused by not eating, or not being fed. Death is a natural part of life and happens to every creature on Earth. It cannot be avoided and therefore should not be feared.

I don't blame God or Satan for these things because I believe they are creatures of myth.

So the children dying of AIDS had free will?

The ones dying and disabled by malnutrition and preventable diseases had free will to prevent this happening?

If your god exists, he is omnipotent and omnicognicent and all loving - your definition not mine - so he knows of all these innocents, he has the power to cure them, and he wants to cure them.

But you claim that Satan, a creation of god, who is not omnipotent, and not omnicognicent stops him.

Do not even get me started on the numbers of babies that god aborts. AKA a miscarriage.

You need to go away and think about that.

Meanwhile, as an atheist I do not 'blame' god, any more than I blame the leprechauns, Santa Claus or the pixies. I do not blame the woes in this world on imaginary creatures.

The woes in this world are the results of circumstance and the lack of the will of man to stop it. The solution is in the hands of mankind, not some stone age anthropomorphic personification.

I do not blame satan either. He is as imaginary as his alter ego of god.

This is an ingorant post, because you are addressing atheists as if they are against god. ATHEISTS DO NOT BELIEVE IN HIS EXISTENCE. They do not believe there is a god. So your post is rather ignorant.

Furthermore, I am not an Atheist, I do believe in a supreme intelligence and afterlife, however, I DO NOT BELIEVE IN SATAN. You post seems like a belief from the dark ages and from a very uneducated person.

People make their own decisions and are solely responsible for their own actions. Satan is not making a serial rapist rape, the child molestor molest.

I am going to stop here because this is one of the stupidest christianity beliefs I have ever heard.

Being an atheist I know there is no god, no devil, no demons so why would I blame any of them?. Some good things and some bad things happen to people by chance, by circumstances. Your logic is rather flawed. A bomber blows up a football stadium, killing tens of thousands of fans. By your thinking they all deserved it? They all chose it? To me your description makes it sound like your god is either a sadistic sob who likes watching people suffer or he is not as powerful as satan. Which is it?

Athiests wouldn't blame god for the negative aspects of life, because athiests don't believe in god. Bad things happen because people tend to be selfish and they make careless choices. People need to take more responsibility for their actions, and actually stop to consider the impact that their lives have on others. That's all.

Well - there is a reason for God creating Satan. You know - to keep the yin & Yang of things in balance. But he obviously had a few too many Gin & Tonics when he came up with Republicans... -- Just think of what the world would be like if God hadn't hadn't liked his cocktails a bit too much..
