Is this a valid point for the "Soul" argument?

The same way you deduct that you have a conscience (not a material entity) we can say we have a soul.

You BELEIVE that you have a conscience, although there is no material proof that you do.

Good God!

A japanese engineer can build a robot and program it to do good deeds, does that qualify as a conscience?

Good deeds are not evidence of conscience, Your intentions may be wicked, or you may want a favour for doing that deed.

Of course some of them have a conscience, they just haven't learned to think beyond themselves or believe in anything other than their TV and their car. Basically, their heads are made of concrete. Athiests are block-heads.
Look at their asinine answers to your question. They have no soul. If a person asked them to make love, they would ask, "what do you mean? Insert my penis into your vagina?"

"Atheists: do you have a conscience? can you prove it?"
Yes I do. If you want an answer as to what conscience is from a material viewpoint, it's memory. As to "proving" it, you would have to judge for yourself by my day to day actions, the same as you would with a non-atheist.

"Is this a valid point for the "Soul" argument?
No, it isn't, because you are presupposing that "conscience" and "soul" are the same thing. Conscience is simply those things that I have learned to guide my actions. In other words, "conscience" is my brain using my memories.

"The same way you deduct that you have a conscience (not a material entity) we can say we have a soul."
No. As I said, conscience is memory in my brain- it is a material entity. That's all there is to it.

"You BELEIVE that you have a conscience, although there is no material proof that you do."
Yes, there is material proof. I have a brain and it holds my memory.

"A japanese engineer can build a robot and program it to do good deeds, does that qualify as a conscience?"
Conscience is by definition a term that we apply to humans, not machines.

"Good deeds are not evidence of conscience, Your intentions may be wicked, or you may want a favour for doing that deed."
We usually define selfless acts as acts guided by conscience. The acts you name are acts of self-interest or malice. What's your point?

Is conscience connected to the soul, I thought the soul was supposed to be the spiritual side of a person.

So if I'm an atheist according to your sentence its far more easier for me to go kill some one and not feel any remorse. Than a Christian, that's assuming your one?
Being an atheist doesn't lessen you as a human being surely or am I missing something.

I suppose Jesus saying "do unto others as you would like done unto you" means very little when you don't have a conscience or a faith

Yes, I often help old grannies cross the road, regardless of their religion .......

Conscience has nothing to do with soul ...... It is like asking the christians to prove they have no consciences and everything is their god's idea .......

---------

Please, I am not a missionary, I do not except returns from my deeds. I do not except people to believe in god before I decide if I should help him/her.

If the Japanese Engineer can create a robot that do good deeds, it is indeed good deed for the japanese engineer ..... it is like asking a Christian to create a robot that does all evil deeds so he can repair all the bad deed. The fact he is a christian does not negate the fact he is doing a bad deed.

good grief. No it isn't a valid point. Of course atheists have a conscience... you want proof? .. go out and witness people being kind to one another then take a survey about their religious beliefs or lack of. Human beings are human... just because someone is an atheist doesn't mean they don't have a conscience nor does it mean that just because someone is a theist they do have a conscience... Hitler was a christian, where was his conscience?????

I work for a very large corporation. Recently they started something new which left peoples personal information like social security #'s etc. vulnerable. I make a big deal of it to upper, upper management and they did an about-face and changed it. Just one example.
I have found $80 in a parking lot. On my way out 5 minutes later I saw a guy roaming around kinda frantic. I could tell he was looking for his money. I asked "whatcha lookin for?" He said "$80". I said "here ya go dude" and turned and walked away. A christian would have donated it to the church.

I have a conscience, evidenced by my behavior. I don't see how this is related to a discussion of souls. Thoughts cannot be proven, because other people are not privy to them. Souls cannot be proven because they are poorly defined, and are related usually to things like conscience, emotion, and personality. It is important to note that all these things are linked to the physical organ of the brain, and change as the organ changes through injury, disease, and development.

If you want to define what a soul is and what exactly it does, perhaps we can have a constructive conversation about its potential existence.

Technically, I'm not an atheist.

sorry but no it doesn't relate to the soul argument. it does, however relate to psychology and the brain. to answer your question simply, yes we have a conscience, well at least i hope so. conscience, according to a famous psychologist by the name of Sigmund Freud, is the part of the superego that passes judgment on thought and behavior to the ego for further consideration. that is the psychological perspective on what the conscience is.
to put it simply, a conscience has to do with psychology and a soul has to do with religion.

yes I have a conscience what kind of question is that? can you prove you have a conscience? And the conscience is a fluid stream of thoughts, i don't see how it supports the idea of a soul.
