Since when was this country a Christian nation? Did we have a vote and decide on a national religion? Was I in a coma when this happend? I was under the impression that this country was founded on the belief of freedom of religion for all, and along with this idea America was founded on the idea of a separation of church and state.
As you would note, God is not mentioned once in the Constitution or the Declaration of Independence. A Creator is mentioned, but not the Christian, Jewish, Muslim or any other specific god.
It was never meant to be a Christian nation, but rather a nation where all religions may flourish of their own accord.

What is this suddenly surprise about USA being christian?, I am in the other side of your question...If 82 percent of people is Christian...that makes a Country Christian...
The Notes says... I GOD WE TRUST...DOESN'T say in Allah, nor in Jova....
Yes, the "CHRISTIANS" countries had evolved ALL into secular state with church separated from government, actually, this is exactly the legacy of CHRISTIANITY, you had never study anything of Philosophy or Theology, Did You?
This is exactly the legacy of Jesus, very different by the way of the Legacy Of Mohamed, why do you think this concept of State - law - church separated is part of ALL THE CHRISTIAN COUNTRIES.
you think that Vatican is a "Christian" country?... No, is a "religious" country...you better go to primary school so you don't get surprised by the hot water in 21 st century.
Does the fact of establish "in the constitution" officially a national religion... make this a country more or less Christian... are not 82 percent the same percentage?
Let me see if you got it...From 10 people...8, 2 are Christians...can a country be more Christian than this?
Imagine now how ignorant is this...The Islamic repuclic of Iran should not be called like this cause it has 3 churches... Smart eh?
IN GOD WE TRUST --- YOU HAVE IT IN EVERY NOTE ---
82% CHRISTIANS
SECULARITY = CHRISTIAN LEGACY
FREEDOM EQUALITY MONOGAMY FAMILY CONCEPT = CHRISTIAN LEGACY.
THE WEST OF THE WEST = CHRISTIAN LEGACY
Even the most ignorant Imam of Pakistan knows this.

You bring up the issue of politics and religion at the same time. This is an extremely volatile issue. If everyone agreed on the matter, we would all vote for the same president and either all go to the same church or agree that churches don't need to exist.
The majority of our founding fathers were protestant. At the birth of our country, America was an overwhelmingly Christian nation, though not self-proclaimed to be. Our founding fathers understood the importance of religious freedom. They avoided setting up a government that forced religion or lack thereof on people, because that was what they were fighting for they're very lives to rid themselves of! They had no idea the magnitude their principles would carry them, and these questions that you raise are a direct result.

America is most familiar with Christianity, more specifically Protestant Christianity. To say America is a Christian nation does not mean its government is fiercely Christian, or that it is a TRUE representation of Christianity, it just means the people are most connected to Christianity (whether in its liberal or conservative forms)
Just to prove this, look in your local phonebook in the "churches" section. Count how many Christian churches there are. Now count how many, say, Islamic mosques there are. In my entire country (about 100,000+ people) we have around 120 Christian churches (liberal or conservative), 0 Islamic Mosques, 0 Buddhist gathering places, and 0 Jewish synagoges. In the county north of us (around 200,000 people) there are tons of Christian churches, 1 mosque, 2 synagoges, and 1 place where the Buddhists meet.
Think of it this way....
What day is Christmas on? You should easily know that.
Now.... ... when do the Muslims celebrate Ramadan?
If you do not know this, it just goes to show how America is most familiar with Protestant Christianity.
If you want to discuss the actual history, please do email me because I have a book in progress on the topic. I have read over 300 books, contacted professors from Yale, Indiana state university, hand-written over 600 pages of notes (purely quotes or facts) and right now I have 410 pages of the book, from the Dedication page to the Bibliography (the Bibliography alone is about 10 pages)
I have like 30 pages on Columbus
40 pages on the Puritans
20-30 pages on the Quakers
Ben Franklin has the most pages, I think 40ish
Washington has around 25
Adams around 10
Jefferson around 10
And yes there is a Christian reference in the Constitution
And there are.... I believe 4 references to God in the Declaration of Independence, but they edited out Jefferson's original draft calling King George a Christian
But yes, they generally hoped that all religions would florious but until the mid 1800s the states generally had enforced Protestant Christianity, then around 1820-1850 most of them had narrowed it down to just Christianity, or at least the belief in one God, and by 1951 I believe full religious liberty was granted in every single state, particularly since up until that time Atheists were generally barred from office.

i think there were a lot of horse thieves and prostitutes ,and other pi rats that made up some of the immigrant population.there was a speech and some one said god in it so these religious fanatics assume the word ,god meant they were christian

Well, it's not true that it was never intended to be a Christian nation. The Puritans had the idea that the "new world" would be a "new Jerusalem," the "city on a hill." However, by the time of the constitutional age, that dream had died and the founders realized that a democracy couldn't hold together if one religion was allowed constitutional priviledge.

deny this all you want but it's all around you. whether you like to admit it or not, Christian values are the dominant and people of all religions are allowing it so what does that tell you.People are made to swear "to tell the truth and nothing but the truth so help me God" while having their right hands placed upon the "BIBLE" and there are other situations as well like the holidays, etc. And those of you who believe this nation is being replaced by Islam take a seat and witness things happening before your very own eyes soon to take place. don't be astonished! when they happen. Now i don't live in the U.S. but i studied enough in regards do don't be a hater!you don't want to admit it but keep a watchful eye and see!

Yes but you see, they conveniently forgot that their graven images where christian when they erected them everywhere, the same can be said about accidentally placing them words on money and buildings and altering the ORIGINAL pledge of allegiance, and also distributing their books and literature everywhere.
They will "validate" such claims by saying there have been polls conducted ... intellegent people know the polls are sh*t because out there in the "real" world, non christians are still persecuted and so they cannot reveal themselves.
You see a ton of christian lit at the store, but if one piece of other belief lit makes its way.. they scream and cry "satanic" and have it removed. Thus is their power, as well as their hypocrisy.

Not wrong. It's just contended that Christianity and Judaism were the primer influences of the founding, and that the former religion is the dominant religion of the people, based on polling data.
