Martin Luther King, Jr. was a minister and received a lot of support from the Black Baptist congregations. However, many conservative Christian pastors also protested the integration of the races.

What are the topics that lead to Christians churches supporting opposite sides in a controversial struggle for the Christian point of view?

I would say that you are right Certain churches did hinder the civil rights movement. And they were wrong to do it, and God will judge them according to their work, which is fair. Inequality and slavery are abominations and will always be, and anyone that supports them has a darkened heart. A darkened heart may claim the name of christianity, but Jesus said "You will know them by their fruit." I would not ever attend a church like this, nor would I ever listen to its leaders.

True believers are not contradictory in their convictions. They stand for just what the bible says they should. And any person or organization that does otherwise, even if they claim they are christians are in error.

I think the single most contradictory message is "love the sinner, hate the sin." This attitude is similar to the one that the church promoted back when left-handed people were thought to be "evil" and were therefore persecuted.

God makes some people LGBT, and makes others straight. Neither orientation is "sinful" or "evil," nor is acting on such orientation, according to God's plan for your life.

1. Prohibiting idolatry and encouraging extreme nationalism. Flag=golden calf. National anthem=cultish chant.

2. Claiming peacefulness while promoting war.

3. The sanctity of marriage is harmed by same-sex marriages, but not by the 50% of holy unions that end in divorce.

4. Do not gamble vs. Bingo Fridays.
