I have not gone in years, am not super reglious but want to meet nice people. I would prefer a church that talks of now-a-day events and happenings and not all about
bible characters. I am open to all suggestions. Just want some insight if there is such a church. I was raised in baptist faith when I was a child. I believe I am more spirtual than religous.

There are so many out there to chose from. I know and will feel it when I see it. Yes, I am looking for more upbeat, modern ones where the people are nice and friendly. Maybe one with single functions cause I am single. I will go on line and do searches as well, just wanted some leads to go on.

Look beyond the surface. Do not worry about which church to join...or even exactly what they talk about or how they conduct their service. What should be the deciding factor is how "alive" the church body as a whole is. How do they treat you when you enter as a stranger? Do they ignore you or whisper about you...or do they welcome you with a smile and a handshake. Do you see their behavior as being that of the God you believe in? Are they loving, kind and open to you?
Churches themselves are man made...with many man made traditions and rules. It is God's influence over the church body that should be your clue as to whether or not being a part of the group would be to your benefit.

There are timeless lessons to be learned from Bible characters, some church leaders just fail to bring them into the present tense. Church should not just be story time, leaders need to give their congregations practical advice on life through what is written in the Bible. I would recommend a nondenominational church if you're not really the "religious" type. They are often more casual, contemporary, and larger than many denominations. They usually have some order of leadership but are not affiliated with any denomination or and do not follow a particular doctrine. They simply teach what the Bible says.

If you want to stick with Christianity I'd recommend the Unitarian Universalist Association. The most tolerant, open minded, socially aware Christians I've ever met. Mostly, of course, any one specific church in any one specific community may be less tolerant, open minded and socially aware than another Unitarian Universalists elsewhere. My experiences were in NY, CA and NJ only
If you Wanna branch out there's Zen Buddhism, and Wicca.

Where do you live? What you could do is look on line, I think the more modern churches of today have websites. The one I go to sings more up to date songs, has a website, and ways to get "connnected" no matter what age you are.

I am an Episcopal priest - and I think that the Episcopal Church is a pretty cool place for people who want to find a spiritual connection to God, find community, and have a social-justice component. Not all Episcopal Churches fit this bill, but many do. Give it a try! :)

Then try a Southern Baptist church, since you already know what they are like. Or try a nondenominational "Bible" church.

Look for a calvary chapel, very modern, modern worship, great messages and it doesn't matter what you wear.
