Re: Gas strike May 30, 2007. When posing an answer it is the mature thing to do by not verbally attacking other people. It's ok to disagree cursing and being abusive is not the answer. It is ok to not agree, it is not ok to behave as children.

Let me say this as maturely as I can, even though I am supremely sick of the question. A one-day gas strike will do absolutely nothing. Let's do a little math. Most people get gas once a week. Some more frequently, some less frequently. That means on any given day, a maximum of only about 14 percent of the total gas-buying public would normally get gas. So in a perfect scenario where all 14 percent don't get gas, that's only a small percentage of the week's fuel purchases. Since this is a once in a year happening, it is an absolutely microscopic, almost non-calculateable portion of the country's total annual fuel purchases. And, the people who don't buy gas on a certain day will need to buy it on a different day, possibly boosting that day's sales. Add to that the fact that because all 14 percent won't take part in the strike, the "impact" drops even more.

I also agree that a one day gas purchase "strike" will not effectively resolve any of our price woes. Gasoline is like any other addictive drug.... you can get away without it for a day or so and find ways to put off buying it, but when you need it and have to have it... you buy more of it which is exactly what any business wants. More consumers spending $$.

What would work better than a one day strike would be to pick one brand of gasoline and boycott that for say two weeks. Naturally we'd have to make certain that it was part of the top three producer's brands so as to not slide our money from one part of a corporation to another.

Lastly Internet civility: People act much different when in the safety of their home or office. It is very simple to become boorishly opinionated, racist, sexist, abusive and generally rude when you have the luxury of hiding behind a keyboard. I associate this with how people actually drive their cars as well since you are kind of detached while driving.

I say if you aren't able to say that or act that way in person, then don't misrepresent yourself by acting like a jerk behind a keyboard!!

The only answer is to NOT buy from one company. these one day gas strikes are completely stupid, and have been shown by cnn and others to be worthless.

only solution that has a chance in hell is to not buy from Exxon mobile. period. till further notice
